I'm replacing my 5 year old computer so I can do video editing. Most computers come with Vista but some systems like Dell Inspiron) do have an XP option. Does PE4 work equally well with Vista and XP or is one better than the other? Thanks.

Re: XP or Vista for PE4A lot of folks on this forum have held back from going the Vista route until SP1 was available. I am one of those as I still use PrElv2 - which is not Vista compatible.
Well now that Microsoft has anounced that Vista SP1 will be available in early March I suspect that there is no strong reason to hold back. So, if I were you, I'd go Vista. A lot of users on this forum already have followed that route and don't appear to be having too many issues/problems. For me, I will go Vista as soon as the service pack is available so that means no more PrElv2 for me - it will at least force me to use PPro which I already have but don't use that much. Re: XP or Vista for PE4I still think there are too many issues with version 4 that seem to have lots to do with Vista.
The recommendations are mixed, I say stick with XP if you have the option. 1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.
2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
Re: XP or Vista for PE4If you're replacing a 5 year old computer, it sounds like you're someone who buys for the long term (like me). Although Vista is having trouble finding its footing, I don't believe it would be in your best interest to purchase an XP machine. If there are problems I think they will be minor, and problems can be worked through. This forum is proof of that. I'm not personally very wound up about Vista either, but if I was purchasing a new computer I wouldn't think about loading it with anything else. It is true that you could purchase a machine with XP on it today and then upgrade to Vista at some time in the future, but why put yourself through all of the self-made problems that come along with that sort of transition?
Be yourself; everyone else is taken.

Re: XP or Vista for PE4I've been using Vista with PE4 for the last 2 months. I just finished my second project and I had no issues.
Go with Vista
Re: XP or Vista for PE4Thanks for the feedback!
Re: XP or Vista for PE4THis is an interesting topic. I am planning to get a new laptop shortly that will be devoted to photo/video editing. One of the areas I have been researching has been the XP versus vista program. How has vista handled the photoshop programs? I am looking at Photoshop 7 and CS 1 and 2. I have heard there have been compatibility issues with vista and at this time I really am leaning towards staying with XP. Has anyone had issues running these photoshop programs with vista?
Thanks for your help! Kerrie Kerrie

No problems with Vista running PSCS2. -Vernon
Re: XP or Vista for PE4I've been using PrElv4 / PsElv5 and v6 with Vista Home Premium without problems.

Re: XP or Vista for PE4I asked the same question here about three months ago and the answer was unanimous - XP running sp2. Maybe the glitches and hiccups for vista have been ironed out but XP works fine and I have been putting together some heavy duty 30 minute resource sucking videos and all is well except for some PE4 probs with text and tape export.
Seems like an each way bet at the moment, but XP works very well for me. Chris
Re: XP or Vista for PE4There is an overview of Vista SP1 on the Microsoft web site. One of the improvements in Vista SP1 is increased compatability among software vendors.
Adobe is one of the software companies mentioned. Here is the link: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsvista/en/library/417467e7-7845-46d4-85f1-dd471fbc0de91033.mspx?mfr=true
Re: XP or Vista for PE4Last Spring when I bought my new computer, I decided to go with XP. I decided I have too many programs that wouldn't work with Vista and the cost of upgrading would be high and I had rather invest that money in the computer itself for now.

Re: XP or Vista for PE4Can we back up a second to the earlier post from 'twosheds' about Vista not being compatible with PE2. Like him, I'm also still using PE2, and quite happily so. Does this mean I'm definitely out of luck with this version if I switch from my current XP machine to one that runs on Vista, with or without SP1?
thanks, steve
Re: XP or Vista for PE4
Yup, sorry to say Steve, you will need to upgrade to at least version 3.02 to run Premiere Elements on Vista. 1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.
2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
Re: XP or Vista for PE4Guess it's time to start paying even more attention to the PE4 forum!
