Rendering stopped-Out of Memory...Done All Except???

Postby agmilton » Wed Dec 12, 2007 2:29 pm

PLEASE HELP! I have exported* from PhotoShop Elements v5 225 slides (as slide show)into PE3. While attempting to Render (no sound yet) it gets about 20% into & freezes and gives "out of memory" message. When system resources show approx 1.46GB RAM used it freezes.

*From Adobe PSE5, I selected "Send (Export?)to Premiere Elements". (I don't remember the exact wording and I'm not at that computer right now). Then I opened PE3, and attempted Rendering BEFORE I even added audio track.--This is where I started having problems.

My FINAL goal is to put it all together (along with a few short digital video clips)on a DVD to play on TVs or computers.

The photos have been resized:
Approx 60% are LANDSCAPE at 960 x 700 (a guess-timate average--height varies from 544 - 731)with sizes between 132-180kb
Approx 40% are Portrait at 960 x 1350 (again a guess-timate-- height ranges from 736-1394) with sizes between 200-297kb

SYSTEM INFO: Gateway Pentium 4 3.06ghz 2.48GB RAM ( two x 256 + two x 1GB) WinXP SP2
I have:REBOOTED, disabled antivirus and every other thing I can think of, turned off non-essential Windows functions, increased Memory usage to max allowed by system, defragged hard drive (plenty of space), have PE files on separate hard drive...

I have done these types of slide shows on DVDs before (about a year ago) on this system (without all the tweaking).

Any ideas? Are the pics still too large? (I do have pans, zooms on most slides)
Are there better ways to make photo slide show to dvd (I planned to add music and videos in it as well).

Thanks in advance for your help,
Gary

There is a good chance that it is a problem in the slideshow itself, how long is the total project?

Could also be a virtual memory problem, do you know how the page file is set?

I'm not knocking Premiere Elements when it comes to slide shows, but I'm a strong proponent of ProShow. I made a slideshow with 1500 images last year and it went without a hitch. Much easier to work with as well. ProShow Gold has several output options and Producer (higher end) even has an AVI export that imports easily to PE. I just got done with a DVD that has a few slideshows intertwined between the videos (@200 or so images total) and it again was produced without a single problem.

Just maybe something to look into to enhance your work flow... 2 cents.

-Ron

The slideshow is 225 photos--lasts only 14 minutes or so.

I have split the 14 minutes into two segments (I'll splice videos between). First part is about 9 minutes.

Thanks,

Can you check the timeline for any blank spots and how is your page file set up?

Here is a good thread at the Adobe forum, same problem solved by resizing which is what you have already done.
That is the main cause of this error, oversize images. Are you sure you used the resized images in your slideshow and not the originals?

Page File setup: I changed it last night to maximum Windows would let me, then (after the same results) Changed it in Windows Registry (as directed in a post--I can't find it now, but will let you know later).

I'll check for any blank spots and report back.

Thanks,
Gary

Although it's of no help in your current situation, I'll second Ron's recommendation above for using ProShow. I've just finished a DVD which had a number of slideshows (and videos) with a total of 600+ photos and over 250 in a single show.

Regarding your current problem I think it might be worth splitting the slideshow into a number of smaller projects, exporting those out as intermediate movie files and then putting them into a master project interspersed with the videos.

CHANGES:
Applied 3.02 Patch
Found Gap & closed
Moved both segments to Video Track 1

Got to 02.02;04 and the same result:
"Video Preview Error
Error Compiling Movie
Out Of Memory"

The "rendered" line stops in the middle of a checkerboard transition between a 960x551 photo (177kb) and 960 x696 (179kb) photo.
I was watching Windows Task manager at the time--at slightly over 13.5% (last note I recorded) "PF Usage" just over 1.51 (Yellow line) and frame just passed 3500. (Is there an error log anywhere that would help?) CPU Usage was plateauing off and on at 100%

Virtual Memory set to :System Managed Size
Minimum: 2MB
Recommended 3813MB
Currently Allocated 3566MB

(I tried last night with MAXIMUM "Custom" size it would let me put in)

Last Night I then turned off Paging between RAM and virtual Memory per

Any thoughts?

1. Try removing the transition where the problem occurs and rendering again, see if the transition is causing the problem.
2. Are you sure you are using the reduced size images?
3. How much space is left on your scratch drive and on your primary drive?
4. When was the last time you defragmented your drives?
5. Can you export any format at all, like Dv-AVI (File/ Export/ Movie)?

Check this Adobe list of errors for Premiere Pro, you may find an answer;
Out of Memory
Error Compiling Movie
Both are included among many others

Well, it ALMOST worked....
After updating one driver, it finally allowed me to Break Apart Photoshop elements (the 1st time in gave serious error to shutdown error). Then it rendered the files, and I immediately saved. Then I added a Title box as a spacer, and added the second slideshow of files, When I tried to "break apart..." and another serious error...program will save, and it did, and when I reopened it, the rendering from before was gone.
It did render again, but again won't break apart new slideshow segment.

Defragged C:\ drive last night.
When I "renamed" source pics (from resized folder), they dissappeared from PE., so I am pretty sure it is resized files.
I'm not sure if it will export.

Sometimes the only way around this is to export to an AVI file and import that into a new project.

UPDATE on what's happening now.

I have:defragged (once again) hard drives.
Run Spybot(found some), AdAware(found 1), EazyCleaner, CCleaner
Updated WinXP
Checked for updated drivers

SOMETIMES--it will crash during rendering--always at a different spot
SOMETIMES--It will complete rendering (red line replaced by green)--BUT--After I save it --Close & Reopen--The REDLINE IS BACK--& has to be re-rendered.

Note: When opening, PE3 is looking for file "Tropical_7.tga" I certainly did NOT have a pic by that name. (Could this be associated with the title page I inserted as a spacer?)

looking for file "Tropical_7.tga"

I've only heard of this one time prior and it turned out to be a title that was used, Premiere Elements loses the path for some reason.
Have you reinstalled the software yet or tried a repair install?
