Hi there,
I am using the latest iMac on Snow Leopard.
I try to download the subscribers downloads for HD Motion Background. What I got at then end of the download was a .php file. When I open it, TextEdit was activated. How come the files are not .mov files ?
Any ideas where I went wrong ?
Thanks

What browser are you using? And are you using any kind of download manager?

If your downloaded file is a php, you're downloading the page's link code itself rather than the file. As you probably know, Mac installation files end in either .zip or .dmg.
Macs are also very intuitive -- so installing online content is usually as simple as clicking the link and letting the computer take it from there.
Which files are you downloading these files from and what exactly are you doing to download them, Ryan?

Yeah, we had one or two, but it never persisted and/or we never heard from them after a couple of emails, so by default I just assumed that they must have fixed the issue on their end. Could have something to do with MAC updates or something? It's a most difficult one to troubleshoot as I don't have a MAC nor do I know much about the environment. I know that there's a way to emulate Windows (which could have solved the past problems), but again, no idea if that would fix it either.

Hi, Ryan--
I just tried downloading HD backgrounds in both Safari and FireFox on my Mac and both downloading the .zip file perfectly.
It could be that one specific file is buggy. Let me know which is giving you trouble and I'll give that a try also.

Hi all,
I am using Safari. I tried to download HD Love 15 video background.
In fact I tried a few others, I always ended up having a php file.
Is Mac the problem ?
Thanks

Yes. Unfortunately it does seem to be a Mac problem, Ryan. I can't download those particular backgrounds either without getting a .php file instead! And that's true with both FireFox and Safari.
I'm going to try it with Chrome and see if the results are any different.

Well, this seems to be the problem we had before with Macs.
The free downloads work fine. It's the members-only stuff that, for some reason, downloads to Macs as a php.
Maybe we can find another way to get the file to you, Ryan.

Ryan, do you have a PC you can download the file with and then transfer them to your MAC?
I just downloaded the Love 15 background with Firefox and my laptop without any problems.

Does this help at all? To download you should, from now on, click and hold on a link to an attachement or downloadable file. You get a number of choices When you choose the 'save this link as:' option you get a prompt that gives you a choice of saving as 'text' or 'source'. Default is 'text' and that's not what you want. Choose save as 'source' and things should go smoothly after that.

Sorry, Chuck, but none of the members-only files download on a Mac, no matter which browser you use -- and no matter how long you click and hold on the link/button.

Try it now, guys.
Edit: and ensure you either close your browser first or clear your cache. I made some file modifications.
Thanks!

Sorry, Ron. It's got to be a Mac thing.
No matter what you try to download, you end up with a file called download.php.

OK, thanks Steve. Don't give up yet. The Free button and the download button aren't much different in functionality. I'll find it. Maybe not tonight, but we'll get there.
