Uploading Short Movie to YouTube

Postby RandysMedia » Tue May 03, 2011 1:41 pm

I made a 1-1/2 min. video to upload to YouTube. We filmed the short movie twice, one closeup and one a little further from the person. I used portions of each filming and then used a cross dissolve transition. The showing on YouTube is blurry where the transitions were inserted. Does anyone have any recommendations how to get a smoother transition for purposes of YouTube? - Randy

This thread on YouTube export settings may help, read all 4 pages. On page 2 are my screen shots for Vimeo settings.

Thanks for the quick response Cheryl,
I'm not as familiar with all the settings that will improve my uploaded presentation. The clip was filmed in standard definition. I do know that the format for the uploaded file was FLV / F4V, 320 x 240 fps, with a frame rate of 30, and a bitrate of 256kbps. Sorry for the ignorance!

The 320x240 is a very small file. Read thru the thread. Basically you want your output for YouTube to be the same dimensions as your project dimensions, 2 pass encoding, and play with the bitrate. Vimeo uses different file sizes for optimal viewing as per my screen shots and I think that Vimeo is better than YouTube when it comes to converting your files. There is a lot of info on that Muvipix thread I linked that should help walk you thru the export for either YouTube or Vimeo. If you get stuck just post a screen shot of your export panel and one of us will help you from there.
