hdvsplit + windows7

Postby Jayell » Wed Apr 14, 2010 1:46 pm

Any problems running HDV split on Windows 7?
HDV opens .. recognizes the camcorder (CanonHV40). I can use HDV to play the footage, go forward, go backwards .. but as soon as I start to capture, it stops. No error message .. just stops running (as if it's come to the end of footage). Have tried it on multiple locations on the tape. My WinXP machine (using the same version (.77 beta) runs fine and captures the same footage just fine.

Guess no one's run into this yet. It isn't an HDV split problem, as I also can't capture to PRE7 either. Same problem. So much for that great new computer I just bought. I'll keep searching around for answers. Right now I capture to my old machine, then push it through the network ](*,)

I know that not too many of us have moved on to Windows 7 yet. Also, it is very quiet on the forum right now, lots of stuff to do in the springtime :)
I'm sure someone will have an answer for you soon Jayell, just hang in there.

Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
If even Premiere Elements won't capture it sounds like something wrong with the Firewire card maybe?

From all the research I've done so far, it appears to be the Firewire driver. HP has issued an updated driver which seems to have solved the problem for all the HP users. Don't have any idea if other computer makes could make use of it or not. Some have suggested loading a 'legacy' driver, but others have said that's a 1-time solution.

Same here, no problems capturing from my camera. Don't think it should make a difference but my camera is a Sony not a Canon.

OK .. now I'm r-e-a-l-l-y confused. 8-[ At the beginning of this thread I was not able to capture (from ANY program) on my new Win7/64-bit computer. I could control the camcorder, but could not CAPTURE (from both HDVsplit & PRE7). Not having enough firewire ports, I purchased a 2-port card. I can NOW capture from the new ports (but still CANNOT from the original).
Not understanding hardware too well .. what could be different about the new card?

The chipset for one thing. Most Firewire devices suggest using a Firewire card with a Texas Instrument chipset.
Could also be that the card is not OHCI compliant, that is also a requirement for some devices.

Could be that they just put in a very cheap firewire card to start with. You might just want to replace it all together with another one of the cards that you just bought and works :)

Glad to hear you can capture again Jayell !!

Me too!! Me too! :yh: And as long as the funky firewire port will handle one of my external drives OK (which it seems to), I can just leave everything as is.
