PE 7 files start to load and then minimize

Postby cusefan123 » Thu Mar 18, 2010 10:27 pm

Hello,

Wondering if anyone might have ideas on this one...I have used PE 7 on my computer without any significant issues over the past year. I probably haven't used it in the last couple of months and really have made no changes to my computer (XP, 3.33 GHz, 1.33GB RAM).

Whenever I load PE 7 now, I get to the screen where I can pick new project or edit an exisitng. Either way, (new or existing) the program starts to load and then suddenly the window minimizes. When I go to click on the minimized window, it does not maximize...it stays minimized. When I right-click on the minimized window, I am able to close (as if the program were running normal) without any "program not resonding/end now" error. The window closes normally. I tried re-installing, no luck.

It was suggested to me to go to a restore point, but was curious to see if there were any other suggestions / input about what may be happening / how to correct.

Thanks in advance!

I had recently the same thing happening, the program opened to the welcome screen and I chose a project I had been working on a week before. After loading the project everything disappeared from my desktop.

I was very surprised for a moment, but than I remembered, that the last time I worked on that project I had an external monitor connected to my notebook computer.

I used the external monitor as my primary display and moved the monitor window to my notebook display. I fixed the problem by opening a different project were I had not used the external monitor.

I have not tried to reproduce this behavior, I think it is kind of odd that you would have to restore the work space every time before closing an external monitor session. So I'm curious if you had an external monitor connected too. :?:

No, just a monitor connected to the PC, no changes or anything. Any other ideas?!

Go to Windows Update and click the Custom button to ensure you have the latest updates (even the non-critical ones). Then go to Apple and ensure you have the latest version of Quicktime.

If that doesn't fix it, you can try restoring your Adobe product licensing.

And if that doesn't work, it might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling the program, removing preferences. (You won't lose any work in progress.) Something has clearly corrupted somewhere.

Do you have an Nvidia graphics card? Your symptoms sound similar (but not identical) to those encountered with the Nvidia 195 series drivers. If that is what you have, update the driver to the current 196 series.
Cheers,

Thanks for the input. I will try all this and report back. I checked..my graphics cards is an ATI Radeon Express 200...whatever that is!

OK, I tried updating Windows and that did not do it, but things seem to be back to normal after downloading the latest Quicktime. I have had no issues since. So, thank you for the suggestion. Just curiously, any thoughts why this would have done the trick?!

Thanks!

Premiere Elements depends heavily on some things being up to date, Quicktime, Audio and Video Drivers are a few of them.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

When it comes to computers, I usually don't try to guess. I just thank God it's working!

It could be that the order updates were installed caused some sort of corruption. You're reinstalling Quicktime might have fixed it.
