Compositing fade in problem

Compositing fade in problem

Postby Shrimpfarmer » Sat Jan 23, 2010 6:37 am

I just cant seem to hack how to do this properly. If you look at this brief clip it shows my problem. The rocks are on the layer above the background image. If I apply a fade to both clips starting and ending at the same time I get the result shown.

I have tried messing around with delaying one then the other, but I only seem to make it worse. I want them both to fade up and for the rocks to look as if they belong in the picture.

The fade on both tracks is operating on opacity.

The problem is that you have two fades taking place simultaneously, but since one is on a higher track, it also affects the fade beneath it. One solution is to place black video above both of these tracks, and then vary the opacity of that black track to create your fade in.

EDIT: A little opacity keyframing on the black video, from 100% to 0% should do it. I couldn't think of the work keyframe a while ago. Too early in the morning here, and I hadn't had my coffee. :-D

Dave

That tip has really made my day. Having a black video track running above all of my clips not only sorts out the problems of fading everything together, but its even better than that. It allows me to turn it off (remove the enable flag when you right click it), this quickly hides all fades so that you can work on fine positioning, then turn them all back on again. Super duper or what \:D/

Wow! Just got back from a day of taping interviews for our church marketing DVD and I find out I've been named Super Helper of the Day! Is there a cash prize that goes along with this? I don't have to send a $500 processing fee or anything do I? I'm getting really tired of having to do that.

Seriously, glad to help Shrimpy. It's not often I get to give back a little for all the help I've gotten here.
