PREL7 looks good to me!

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 7.

PREL7 looks good to me!

Postby pdvachon » Sun Oct 12, 2008 5:06 pm

Hey, is it just me or does PREL7 just seem to work a whole lot better than PREL4? Everything just seems to flow smoother :)

That seems to be the general consensus. Particularly if you've got an adequate RAM load. (It can use as much as twice what previous versions used.)

It works much better than v4, IMO :)

For editing standard DV on an XP machine, I'd recommend 2 gig of RAM. Twice that for HDV and AVCHD.

For Vista, I'd recommend a minimum 3 gig for standard DV and 4-6 gig for HDV and AVCHD.

Does that seem to jibe with anyone else's experience?

Hi pdvachon,

can elaborate what you meant by " PREL7 just seem to work a whole lot better than PREL4?"

you meant to say:

(a) PE4 always hang and PE7 seldom hang OR

(b) PE7 has rectified the bugs in PE4 ?

I am still not sure why I cannot edit Titles in PE4 and it is driving me nuts. Whenever I want to edit some titles, a new set of the word "Add Text" always appear. If I edit 10 times, there will be 10 sets of "Add text" appear on tp of each other .....sigh. Because of that, I end up doing the video editing in Sony Vegas.

Hopefully Steve's book can help me solve this problem.

Cheers

Hi Steve,

I have 3GB RAM and a 256MB graphics card. Will this combination be sufficient ?

Ryan, You are describing the exact way the program was designed to work ;)
Have you watched my tutorials on titles yet?

Really ? It was designed to work like that ? That means I must be missing something. Why are they appearing each time I wanna edit ?

Yes Chuck,

I have watch your video on titles.

I have no problem creating the titles. It is when I tried to edit the titles that I got problem.

I think maybe my problem is not the bug but rather my lack of understanding of the software.

Thanks

Ryan,
I know that in one of the tutorials I explained how to edit existing titles, there is a trick to it.
What you are doing is creating a new title everytime you try to edit one.

Be sure to watch the v7 tutorials as well http://muvipix.com/products.php?subcat_id=46
v7 is almost identical to v4 so the tutorials actually apply to both versions.

"Standard" 32 bit Windows (XP or Vista) cannot address more than 3+ GB of RAM. The '+' varies from PC to PC depending on the hardware configuration. 3GB of RAM should be fine for PE, 4GB would only give you a few hundreds of megabytes more, but is OK.

Vista 64 can handle (and requires) more RAM, but since the software does not take advantage of 64 bit processing, I wouldn't go that way yet. My new video PC is Vista 32 Home Premium with 4GB.

Hi Ryan,

I have yet to do any titling, but routine tasks such as trimming clips, adding clips to the timeline, and scrolling the timeline all seem to work smoother. I am running Vista on 2.13 GHz Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of RAM. I have all the eye candy (Aero, etc.) turned on. With PREL 4 there were various pauses and stalls as I waited for the computer to catch up. These seem to be reduced with PREL 7 so I assume Adobe worked hard to clean up the code and use memory more efficiently. These are purely subjective opinions - I haven't done any benchmarking, but I am curious if others are having a similar experience. Congrats to the Adobe development team!
