It is just something I was looking for and searched for a while to figure it out and finally got it so I thought to share it here and hope that you find it useful.
If you have any .dat files or a VCD disc and want to import it into adobe premiere pro cs4 you will get the error that format is not supported.
Simply => Just right-click the .dat file and rename it to any .mpg file.
Now you can import it and continue your project.
