track matte & track order

Ran across a problem in Pro today, may be the same in Pr El. If the matte is on track 7 and the video on track 1 & 2 w/track matte applied, the track matte doesn't work. If the matte is on track 6, the video on track 2 works but not the one on track 1. If the matte is on track 5 then both work. Is there a limit on the amount of tracks between the matte & the track matte video?

Not that I know of.

I did an experiment with Premiere Elements 7 and placed video on tracks 1 & 2 and a matte on various tracks up to and including track 9. Track matte worked as expected in all cases. I don't have Pro yet, so I couldn't test it out there.

Interesting Bob. After I posted went back to Pro and tried a matte on tracks 6,7,8,&9 and placed the video directly below each track and it would not work. Never noticed this before. Will try to open another project and try it again. Haven't read anything about this on the other forums.

For some reason this sequence the track matte won't work on the higher tracks. Opened a new sequence and works just fine on any track. Very odd.
