Importing Flip Video Ultra HD

Postby Matthew Max » Fri Oct 07, 2011 10:04 am

I don't use my Flip video cam much, but when I do, I really need it. Are there any secrets I'm going to wish I knew if I don't ask for them now. The files are MP4. What should my project settings be to edit the files correctly?

And why is there a yellow line above the file when I bring it into a project set up as HDV 720 30?

EDIT: Sorry about this. I realized later you were talking about Premiere Pro rather than Elements. But, FYI for Elements:

Hopefully you're using version 9 or 10 -- the only versions that support Flip cam video.

If you are, it's simple. The program is designed to interface with it.

Open a project and select the Flip HD/Ultra project settings.

The use Get Media/From Flip, AVCHD and Hard Disk camcorder to download the video into your project.

And, yes, I would NOT recommend trying to edit Flip video on an earlier version of the program.

There are 4 possible indicators.

1. Nothing, in which case no rendering is required.

2. Red, in which case rendering is required for the most fluid playback.

3. Yellow, in which case rendering is likely not necessary for playback, but is required on export

3. Green, in which case the timeline is rendered.

HDV 720 30 is not the correct project setting for the flip video but the nice thing about Premiere Pro is that it isn't nearly as fussy as Premiere Elements about mixing and matching different formats in a project :)

Drag and drop the clip on to the New Item button at the bottom of the Project panel. That way, you can create a sequence that matches your clip settings precisely. :)

All this feedback is very interesting, and I appreciate it.

Somebody tell me why everybody's not a member of Muvipix.

Thanks for that tip Kevin, in what version did this feature become available?

Thanks Bob, just another reason why I need to upgrade :)
With my new laptop I can, just need to be able to pay for it.
