Belkin Surf router

Postby hpharley90 » Sun Sep 12, 2010 12:07 pm

Is any one using a Belkin router. I'm using mine wired to 2 computers. Not wireless.
Belkin.jpg

The reason I ask is because mine seems to be giving me a problem. And after 2 hours of trial and error fixes by a rep in India its still not fixed. When I come from my cable modem to back of computer I can download any background or music from the muvipix subscribers page.
When I go through the router it does not work and so far they can't fix it.
They told me to return it and get another one.

The thing is through the router I can download from from all my usual sites except muvipix.com. Ex. i tunes,Amazon, the bank or anything else for that matter using the Mozilla Firefox download manager.
I cannot down load from muvipix using either Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer going through my new router. :-k

Thanks

It looks like an ordinary wireless (and wired) router to me - I looked on the Belkin site and saw nothing out of the ordinary.

I would reset it back to factory defaults and try again. There is no reason why in default, startup mode it shouldn't load anything.

What happens when you try to download from Muvipix - error messages, etc.?

We did and cannot download from muvipix. The router works like it should almost. We can surf all we want.
When I down load from muvipix it doesn't work. Like I said above. From the few sights I download from only muvipix will not work through router.
As you can see from what I said in the previous post that we went through many setting changes.
And before that phone call I tried myself many things including default.
I even uninstalled Mozilla including all preferences and then reinstalled latest version again and no help.

From my modem to back of PC I can download fast from muvipix but not through router. zilch..nothing..it starts and stops just as fast.
Thanks
Richard

There must be something in the router setup, probably a security setting.
Does it also have a firewall? Can't imagine why it would block our zip files and not others as well unless we are in a Not Trusted listing or something like that.

Look at the attachment of what I'm getting when I start a download in this thread about the same problem.viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8224
Notice the unknown time remaining. It will not move from there through the router.
Thanks
Richard

Yes and when it was disabled (I think we did it twice) it was worse. At least now it shows up in Mozilla download manager.
When disabled it won't show up at all.

I don't have a clue.
I do know that my other router used to download right up until it stopped working(7 years old) and I bought this new one a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks
Richard

The "Unknown Time Remaining" is not a fault - it's by design. It's because the files are on a different server - no big deal there.

Have you tried downloading anything other than Hi-Def backgrounds? Are you choosing "open" or "save" when prompted (try the other to see if it makes a difference)? Try turning off all security/firewalls/anti-spyware programs to see if that makes a difference. I can't remember, but have you tried any other browsers?

Weird stuff...

When I get that I know nothing will happen.
I always get some kind of count down. On some music they download so fast I don't even see it.

Ron wrote:ave you tried downloading anything other than Hi-Def backgrounds?

Oh yes. your music.DVD Loops etc.

Ron wrote:re you choosing "open" or "save"

Save. I just tried Open with WMP and the same thing happened. Nothing.

Zilch. nothing. nata.

Ron wrote:I can't remember, but have you tried any other browsers?

Yes. Internet Explorer.
Same thing happens.

And as as I said above if I go from modem into back of PC everything works great.
From modem to router to back of PC no downloads. ](*,)
Thanks
Richard

Richard, how long are you waiting for the items to download?
Many of them are very large, might take 5 - 10 minutes or more.

Way too long. And nothing happens.

Like I said when I go from the modem to PC they download just like they should and as they always did with the old router.
Sometimes it might take up to two minutes or so to download a HD motion background. Not much longer than that.

Coming out of the new router I left it for 30 minutes and it did nothing in the way of a download. Then I take wire out of router and plug in to PC and down load file like I said.
And I'm sure you can imagine I have been working on this for too many days now.
Over 2 hours with a Belkin tech rep today.
They told me it should work and they don't know why it isn't downloading so exchange for another and try that.
Thanks
Richard

Could it be that the router is defective? Have you contacted Belkin?
