processes in task manager

Postby hpharley90 » Sat Jan 30, 2010 4:01 pm

Here is a list of my processes running. Not to long ago it was 38. Now about 50.

How do I know which ones can I shut off?
Also if you shut them off will they come back on and how?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Thanks
Richard

Seems fairly normal. (My PC currently has 47 processes running). Things that spring out
1) CTsvcCDA which is a creative software thing to make your audio CDs play when you put them in.
2) Google toolbar update monitor. (I'd get rid of the tool bar totally)

If you really feel the need to start chianging stuff download "Process Explorer" from Microsoft.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96653.aspx
This will tell you
a) Where the program was launched from (This will therefore often tell you what it is part of)
b) What it's parents and children are.
It also has a quick search functionality to search for the process names online to identify them

Ok. I didn't know what normal was. It just seemed high.

I'm looking for reasons why my PC is freezing up on me now. It started for the first time this morning and when I think it might be fixed I get another freeze up. :pull:
Thanks
Richard

Simply doing a Google search for the process name works great.
There are a couple of sites that seem to have most of the answers to what the processes are and if they can be turned off or not. I did a search for one of my running processes and got this info:
http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/lssrvc/
http://www.liutilities.com/products/win ... ry/lssrvc/

I try to check them out every couple of months while doing routine maint. like defraging and general cleanup.
