1TB External $139.99

The Best Buy circular this morning had the Western Digital (my personal choice) 1TB External My Book Essential (USB 2.0 only) for sale at $139.99.

If you need an inexpensive miniDV, they had a Samsung with 32x optical zoom, extra battery and 3 tapes for $179.99.

It's almost enough to make you wish you needed it...

Thanks, Bob!

I wanted to get to Best Buy today, but shopping at the mall tired my wife and I so much that we decided to skip it and go to our last destination (Costco). Oh well, 1TB drive another day.

Lo and behold! Costco actually had a better version (with Firewire and eSATA) for $139.

Formatting now, will probably run overnight!

In AZ, Fry's (California electronics chain) had the WD World version of the 1TB for US$119. Since there are several versions of the My Book externals, one needs to be sure that the version that they can use best. Usually, the biggest difference is types and numbers of connections. I have a few of the "Essential" editions, that just do not quite do it for me. I like the "World" or similar.

I wonder if some of the WD Essential might be 5400 rather than 7200?

Good question. I looked in the paperwork that came with the one I bought, but it doesn't have specs.

But I buy mine for backup only - performance is not an issue.

The WD that I have seen here were all 5400 rpm.
That's why I went with the Seagate Freeagent which is 7200.

I just picked up a Seagate 1TB for $129 from Frys. I generally check the Fry's web page daily because they usually have
some incredible deals...especially on Norton and other Antivirus programs that are free after rebate.
This Seagate drive had usb, firewire and esata connection options.
I only buy Seagate because they have a 5 yr warranty. I don't think anyone else comes close.
