DOWNLOAD ISSUES

Postby AaronH75 » Thu May 11, 2017 9:09 pm

Hello, I have tried now 7 times to download 2 of the free files (sound effects and special effects), I have done EVERYTHING the instructions told me to do. I even spoke to a couple nice guys, I believe the founders of this site to try to figure out what is up. I tried to download the sound effect file via Microsoft edge but no luck. It does not come downloaded as a .zip file BUT it comes downloaded as a Windows Media player (zip) file, that is exactly what it looks like when it is in my downloads folder. I cannot even open said files. Any suggestions??? I am not running any file management stuff either.

Ron and I tried everything we could think of to help Aaron download the files but for some reason he is downloading something other than the zip file. He has tried Chrome and Edge with no success. Hope that someone can think of something that maybe I forgot or haven't run across before.

It would be good to know what the file type is that you are downloading Aaron. Check the file properties and let us know what it says the file type or file extension is.

I just sent off a pic to you of the properties. It is the strangest thing too because it reads it as a windows media file.

I tried the sound effects download (ml-170) in Edge and had no problems. It downloaded as a zip file and contained all the folders and files. No idea why Aaron is having problems. Chuck, if the properties image he sent you doesn't give a clue, perhaps he could post the file to Dropbox or similar and let you look at it directly.

It seems as though Aaron's default program for zip files is Windows Media Player. I think once that is switched to the proper application the issue will be resolved.

Aaron, can you clarify what operating system you're using. We had an issue several years ago with Macs not being able to download our files. (Though I doubt your'e on a Mac, since you're referencing Windows Media Player.)

We've all been unable to duplicate your problem on a variety of platforms, so something is definitely going on at your end. We'll just need as much information as you can give us in order to figure out what.

He is on Windows 10. The problem is because he has the wrong program set as the default for zip files as I mentioned above.

Right-click on the zip file and select "Open with" and choose Windows Explorer.

the open with method worked and I opened it in windows explorer and the AVI files were shown. It is soo strange that when I downloaded it originally it was a windows media.

It only showed as a windows media file because that was set as your default program for zip files ;)
