Video Capture Issue

Postby BuddyB » Wed Jun 12, 2013 7:14 pm

I can't tell if this is a computer issue or Vegas. The first two captures worked out for me just fine. Now when I try I get the following message, "The device 'The Microsoft Camera and VCR' could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user." I know the Firewire is working as I downloaded WinDV and it makes the camera do its thing. However when I'm through the file doesn't open, but I also noticed that the WinDV people are not continuing with development because of the increase in technology, etc. Any thoughts on this appreciated. Maybe I should try uninstalling and reinstalling Vegas.

Have you installed the IEEE-1394 legacy driver? That often fixes this issue.

• Click Windows Start orb; type "device manager" into the Search box and select Device Manager (or launch Device Manager anyway you like)
• Swivel open the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" item
• Right-click on your listed 1394 controller; select "Update Driver Software"
• Click the "Browse my computer for driver software" button, followed by the "Let me pick from a list" button
• Select the option that has "(Legacy)" at the end of the name; click Next and let the driver be installed
• Close out of dialogs and retry capture

I cannot believe how quick and easy that was. I fiddle faddled with that all day :ha:, tried this, tried that, deleted other programs thinking they had interfered. It took all of about 45 seconds and we're back in biz..sheesh yer a genius! I managed to clean up my machine more in the process, including the registry. Thank you so much. You made a happy camper outa' me. Don't tell me now it's in the book somewhere..did look but didn't see anything.
