Terminology over the years has changed so much. If you would have told someone 30 years ago that you were going to take pictures, and that you thought you would shoot raw, everyone would have run :Insert Streaking Smiley Here:

Bob is right as always , it says on the details sheet, cooler not included. It was an oversight on my part.

Cheryl, I never shoot in Raw. I don't want to deal with even bigger file sizes. You still can use ACR and correct, what ever you need to correct.You don't have as many options as you would with a real raw file. But I wonder if it is really worth it. It all depends on the purpose of your picture.

Ok, I get the joke now...a tad slow today. If you look at my post I did safely say "shoot Raw" and not "in the".

Good to know on the cooler. I asked my tech guy since I belong to the over thinkers club.

As to shoot Raw or not, I have been rethinking again. I have 3 and sometimes 4 files for one photo. A CR2 Raw file at approx. 24MB, a DNG file about the same size, a JPEG at approx 340kb, and sometimes a PSD file which varies with layers and is at the highest quality out of ACR (16 bit or 18) That is a lot for one photo.

I take photos (instead of make) of events for a non profit 4x a year. They only care about snapshots, but it does give me practice. Last time I had over 100 photos in Raw that I processed. The next event I may just shoot JPEG and save a step in ACR. I realize you can open up JPEGs in ACR and there won't be as much data to recover or correct.

That's OK Cheryl, don't apologize, it is great how this thread is going in so many different directions.

If I would get payed to take photos of an event, I would maybe also consider to shoot in Raw. But for snapshots it is too much work.

Have you ever come across this guy's website? Many people hate his opinions, but I kind of liked his point of view about shooting Raw and using your camera on manual setting.

I've heard his name mentioned here and there, good & bad. His site sure does have mega info/opinions! I'll check it out further.

I've run across many opinions regarding shooting in manual and have mostly shot in Av mode. Still trying to get a handle on the exposure triangle. I bought a reflector at Wmart on clearance for $4...it is a silver car sun shade. Tried it out one day with the grand daughter and my daughter held the reflector up. Well, grand daughter (almost 3) decided she would rather run around the yard. So here we are chasing her. Me with my cam trying to change settings on the fly and my daughter with this huge reflector. I'm just glad no one took video of us.

Great news! All the puzzle pieces have arrived. Hope the build goes smoothly.

Just an update: I put all the pieces together and to my surprise it is working, at least as far as I can tell.
Now I have to install Windows and all my programs.
One annoying thing though, the case has some LED illuminated fans and there is a switch to turn them off. The switch is not working and I don't know, if I connected something wrong.
I'm done for today, maybe tomorrow I will be able to figure it out.

I never dreamed I would build my own system one day. Without the encouragement of the great people here at Muvipix, I would have never attempted this.


Cheryl, that is to bad you had to wait even longer for your system to arrive.

I solved the problem with the LED fan lights. The little connectors were labeled wrong, + was - and - was + !

I will maybe post a picture later, it looks really cool with the lights on.

I'm installing Windows right now.
