I have an OEM Windows 7 disc, but it is not a Dell disc. Will there be any problem using that disc to reinstall Windows 7? Do I have to worry about missing drivers?
I've searched Google for an answer, but get conflicting answers.

Re: Reinstalling W7 on a DellShouldn't be any problem.
I have an older Dell laptop and some while ago I carried out a fresh install of Win 7 Pro (from XP) without any problem. I never checked on the Dell website for any drivers and everything seems to work perfectly OK - and no Dell etc. bloatware!! AMD Ryzen 3900x 12C/24T, ASUS x570 mobo, Arctic Liquid Freezer ll 280, Win11 64 bit, 64GB RAM, Radeon RX 570 graphics, Samsung 500GB NVMe 980 PRO (C:), Samsung 970 Evo SSD (D:), Dell U2717D Monitor, Synology DS412+ 8TB NAS, Adobe CS6.
Re: Reinstalling W7 on a DellThanks , John.
I decided to call Dell support and they said that they would send me a W7 restore disc at no charge as a one time courtesy since it was out of warranty. Knowing that, along with your experience, I think I will attempt using my disc. If all else fails, I will then have the disc from Dell to use in a couple of days.
Re: Reinstalling W7 on a DellI installed Win7 on a Vaio fw190 notebook and a HP Pavilion dv8000. The Vaio had originally Win Vista installed and the HP Win XP. I went through the trouble to find specific drivers for the Vaio, but could not find any for the HP. Both computers worked with no problems, even all the function keys worked. More recently I upgraded both notebooks to Win 10 and they still work great. Pretty impressive for such ancient computers. More than 7 years old and running the newest operating system.

Re: Reinstalling W7 on a DellWell, I started the install with a disc that included SP1 using the custom installation about 4 hours ago and the progress bar for "Installing Windows" is only about 3/4 done. Should it take this long?
I've only been asked to restart once.
Re: Reinstalling W7 on a DellCan't imagine it would take that long ....

Re: Reinstalling W7 on a DellIt's still on the same spot on the progress bar. I'm going to terminate the process and try again.

Re: Reinstalling W7 on a DellI tried it again and ended up with many error messages and clicked OK on them all. It restarted and I let it run Check Disk. It then continued to install and was successful. I did have to use the phone activation, but it did activate successfully.
