Canon HF-M31

Postby 357 » Sat Oct 02, 2010 6:00 am

Thanks for the replies (and Hi! to you too Chuck!) and I did order a Canon HF-m31. Anyone can view examples of their camera video by entering their camera choice in search on Youtube. What was I thinking? I use Youtube all the time! Examples of the Samsung video, for the most part, shows what poor video I posted about. Canon video looked great! I have a severe allergic reaction to the iron oxide used in tapes so going with the flash is best for me. best deal was Amazon, of course, at $630.

I think you've made a great choice, 357! You should be very happy with that cam.

With the right editing software and the right project settings, your results should look terrific -- even on YouTube!

Chuck, I'm sorry that I did not know that Muvipix was associated with Amazon. I will try to remember to do so from now on. You are now in "favorites". What brand media is best for Blu-ray or is there any difference? I have not used this new Blu-ray burner yet since I did not have an HD Cancorder. I see my post are showing from a "mobile device". I am posting from a desktop. About the Canopus converter, I have heard the video quality exported is far superior to ADS , especially the color. Is there a model number you prefer? I take it that Canopus is the best?

Not a problem 357, lots of people don't know that we have merchant affiliations but now you do :)
The Muvipix Store page shows most of our affiliated merchants

Any of the Canopus models will work great, don't know if they have any better quality than the ADS Pyro Link but some of the Canopus models have some extra features. Depends on how much you want to spend. This one would be the best option

That is the Canopus I looked at. I do see quality loss (color) when exporting to dvd player/burner (external, Sony) and I always have. I just thought the loss was through the ADS but maybe it is my brand of media. Both my external Sony player/burners burn with identical quality. Can you answer that media question in the previous post? Best brand of Blu Ray and standard media as well if not the same brand for both?

Of course, you will not need a converter of any kind if you shoot video with that camcorder and edit it with Premiere Elements 9. The video will import directly into the program over USB using the program's Video Importer.

I meant after the edit and then "export via export to tape" to burn on my Sony player/burner. Where do you think the loss of color quality is coming from because the videos look perfect untill exported. Just a slight, noticeable loss in color.

What are you using to judge the quality loss 357? Is it your computer monitor or a television?
And why are you using Export to Tape to send the file to your DVD Burner?

I can put 6 hrs of grandkids Video on one DVD that way. Cuts WAY down on the amount of DVDs I have. Is it the compression that affects the quality and that enables Sony to be able do burn that much video on one disc? I am noticing the quality loss after burning and watching on TV. If anyone hesitates to answer the question about the best media in this forum please answer send me a private message. But when I use my pc's DVD burner to burn I notice some loss as well as compared to the imported video. That applies to my old Dell 4700 that is my back up. I have not tried this new Dell XPS yet.

1.5 hours per DVD is pretty much standard without quality loss 357, maybe 2 hours at the very most.
So yes, putting 6 hours on a single layer DVD is going to have noticeable losses. I have had excellent results burning with my computers, just need to ensure you can burn at the maximum bitrate that's all ;)

The best ones are Tao Yuden(sp) or Verbatim.

I have the new camcorder now, Cannon HF-M31 (flash memory) and it connects via USB. Video quality seem excellent on short test videos. I will do a Birthday video today to know more. I have always used firewire with my old Sony camcorder. I cannot import video directly to the timeline in PRE7. The camcorder is recognized by my PC (Windows 7) but I just cannot import the video. I can import usings Windows import software. I could import via ADS converter or pass through another camcorder but I worry about quality loss that way. Any advice? Thanks
