Questions on Prism/Prism Plus

Postby Bill Hunt » Mon Aug 24, 2009 8:40 pm

Helping a poster on one of the Adobe fora. He's got AVCHD material (says that it is pure AVCHD, but cannot furnish full details) and wants to convert it to DV-AVI Type II.

First, he says that Prism and Prism Plus will not work with AVCHD material, and then says that neither will convert anything to DV-AVI Type II, but only Type I.

I do not shoot AVCHD, and have never used either flavor of Prism, but see it highly recommended. Is it true that it will not work with AVCHD and also that it will not convert anything to DV-AVI Type II?

Just curious,

Hunt

The DV-AVIs I've created with Prism have been perfectly compatible with Premiere Elements.

However, I don't know that it will work with AVCHD video. It certainly doesn't claim to be able to! (Although it does claim to work with the H.264 codec -- though that's not always equal to AVCHD video.)

In fact, I don't know any converter program that will go directly from AVCHD to DV-AVI. I'd love to find one though!

Right now Corel has a sale on VideoStudio Pro X2 for $59.99. That can batch convert AVCHD to DV-AVI Type 2. I can also do a custom conversion to DV-AVI type 1. Might be worth it to get this instead of spending $28 on just a converter of some kind.

If you have ever purchased anything from Corel, they probably gave you a discount of future purchase, like $20. Go look in your emails for Corel receipts. That means you could get VideoStudio Pro X2 for $39.99.

This is a great find, Robert! Thanks! I'm sure I'll refer to it often.
