Working with a PSD file

Postby Todd08 » Wed Aug 15, 2007 9:33 am

Ok maybe someone can help, I seen a tutorial for this used in PPRO.
What I want to do is create a PSD file in PSE with each athlete on there own layer, and then bring the PSD file into PE and open it as a sequence were each layer automatically goes on its own video track. What I do right know is save each layer in PSE and then bring them in separately into PE and then apply a motion effect. Just wanted to know if it was possible to work with one PSD file vs. a bunch of layer files.

Thanks
Todd

You can't bring the layers in as separate graphics in Elements, Todd. Sorry.

You'll probably need to export each layer as its own PSD file and do whatever it is you want to do on separate video tracks.

Thanks Steve, Just though there might be a work around in PE to do this like they can do in PPRO.
Like you said I'll just keep exporting each PSD layer separately.

Premiere Pro and After Effects will see the layers of a single PSD file separately but not Premiere Elements. You will have to do like Steve says and export each layer separately and add them each to their own tracks manually. Just one of the things we have to put up with for using the Elements version.

Your message caught my eye because I recently did the same sort of thing. I just posted a file in the gallery that shows a sample of using this technique.

For the project, I was give a jpeg of a logo. I used Photoshop Elements to create a psd and then I created new layers that had each section of the logo that would be used separately in the video. The resolution was so poor for some of the titles that originally came from the jpeg that I had to recreate the titles in PE 3. Using the layers with transparent backgrounds was really effective at helping to keep the spacing correct so that it looked like the original logo.
