This is a 2 prong question:
1. I'm trying to convert my old vhs tapes to dvd's and am using Adesso Video Capture Express which comes with Cyberlink Power Director 12. Worked fine for awhile but now getting a message saying that Power Director can't start the recording. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, applied updates, made sure I have the latest driver etc. but to no avail. Any suggestions on what to do next?
2. What other capture devices/software are people using to do this successfully?
Thanks in advance for any and all responses

I use an old Canon MV6i with video passthrough. Input is from an old VHS tape machine, output via Firewire to my PC using an old Firewire card that I installed.

Can't help with the Power Director problem but I have transferred many VHS tapes to my computer for editing and DVD authoring. I used a ADS Pyro A/V Link, there is also the Canopus models of converters that work well.

Thanks John & Chuck. I used to have a Canon ZR40 handheld camcorder that had analog to digital capability but no more. Thanks for your suggestions, I will persevere.

And you can probably find another Canon ZR40 on eBay as well
