Adobe Updater PSE 9

Postby Ted » Sat Jun 18, 2011 8:11 am

Hello all and happy weekend! :)

When I run Adobe Updater, I am told I need to install an update for PSE 9. However, when I try that, it says there is an error and that I can try later. This has happened for a while now.

Is there something I need to do differently? A way to fix the error?

I'm not sure if it matters, but when I tried to install "Snag-it" I was told I need to install it as an Administrator. The thing is... I am on under my Administrator account.

Thanks for any advice. :)

I wonder if it's another program that's actually causing this problem, Ted. Adobe's Updater often updates every Adobe product on your machine at once.

There was a problem in Premiere Elements 8, for instance, in which the program didn't know it had been updated. You don't have that program on your computer, do you?

What other Adobe products do you have?

Hi Steve, and thanks for your response.

I have the following Adobe products on my machine:

PSE 8
PSE 9
PrEl 7
PrEl 9
Reader 9
ExtendScript ToolKit CS5 (not sure if that's a product or not)

Could it be that the conflict is my still having PSE 8 and PrEl 7 on my system? For some reason I recall reading that it may not be easy/good to remove those BEFORE installing PrEl and PSE 9.

Ted,

Some people have experienced problems with the PSE 9 updates (and specifically the 9.0.3 update) because apparently it will not update if there are background PSE processes running. For example, functions like the Organizer Auto Analysis and the Organizer Sync to photoshop.com run as separate background Windows processes.

Do you use a Wacom tablet ?
The PSE 9.0.3 update is designed to fix problems with Wacom tablets. So if you don't that update is not urgent.

In any case, I was looking for a good description of how to stop these background processes but have not found any relevant Adobe techdoc yet. I need to leave now but will look further later: in the meantime if you don't need the Wacom tablet fix I would say don't worry.

EDIT - adding link to description of the PSE 9.0.3 fix

I, too, always read what the "update" fixes.

If it doesn't fix something that is broken on my system, then I do not download it.

Exception: A knowledgable member offers a substantive reason why I should, for example, Bob's explanation of why IE users should download IE9 even if one's existing version seems to be working fine and Steve's tip regarding the settings for PRE to make it run better (using Page Scroll).

Hi Barb and thanks for the explanation. I do have a Wacom tablet but used it all of ONCE I think? What an impulsive purchase THAT was! :)

I appreciate the link and I agree wholeheartedly with you and George: If it doesn't pertain to me, I won't lose sleep over whether or not it will update.

Thanks again...it's greatly appreciated! :)
