photo file formats

Postby Jayell » Wed Jun 08, 2011 1:37 pm

I have a file folder of graphic images from years back that I use for photo and video frames.

They're all black and white (or shades of grey). Problem is I have 3 of each .. in jpg, bmp, & tif. If I just want to keep ONE of each, which is the best format to keep .. assuming I will always make a copy and never touch the originals.

If the resolution of each is the same, I would think that the TIFF would be best, since it is a lossless format which supports transparency.

I agree. TIFs and BMPs maintain every pixel's integrity. (So does a PSD, of course.) That's why TIFs, BMPs and unlayered PSD files are exactly the same size.

Thanks guys. I knew the jpg wouldn't be first on the list, but wasn't sure between the tif & bmp.
