Where is slider for font selection?

Postby jangrammy » Fri Apr 15, 2011 11:15 pm

I am working in Elements 9. On the tutorial in Adobe showing the Text tool, the version of Elements shows a slider next to the font options which allows you to go up and down the font selections from A to Z. In Elements 9, I do not have a slider and am only able to go down the alphabet unless I type in a font name which will take me to that one but no higher. What am I missing?

I'm not sure about Adobe's tutorial but, as far as I know, there is not slider for going through the font list in Photoshop Elements, Jan. Sorry.

Hi Jan,
I've looked at both version 4 and 9, here are some screen shots, both versions are pretty much identical.
In the bottom image you can see arrows at the top and bottom of the font list, you can click and hold on those arrows to make the font list move up and down, there is no slider in either version. Not sure what version the tutorial you were looking at was using. You also will notice that the Styles List does have a slider, but not the Font list. Is this what you are talking about?

Maybe we're having a communications breakdown here. Chuck, the post was made in the Photoshop Elements forum. Although Jan only mentions "Elements 9" in the post, I assume Photoshop Elements is the subject.

I'm not sure why Jan has no slider, but I can definitely say that my PE9 has one:

Hi Chuck,

Thank you for the reply. I am working in Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 to make some opening and closing pages for the videos.
I signed up for the Adobe Photoshop Magazine and as a part of that I received some instructional videos. It was on the 'Learn Photoshop Elements Today' video explaining the toolbox that I saw the slider next to the Font selection drop down. I just thought that I must not be seeing something obvious since I don't have one (slider, that is) on my screen. Just one of those little frustrations ;o)

Hi Dave,

I just saw your post. For some reason all I have when I go to the font selection is a drop down of the font names. There is no sampling next to the font name and no slider. Do I not have something 'turned on' to get the full drop down?

Dave,

Correction to my last post. I do have the font samples but there is no slider to the right of them.

Jan, here's something that may help:

Note: If you try Solution 2, have PE closed first. If the checkbox referenced in the article above is already checked, try unchecking it, clicking on OK, then go back in and checking it again.
