Fonts not working

Postby ridon127 » Wed Apr 01, 2009 5:09 pm

I can't change the size of the fonts.. It doesn't matter if I use a 6 or 72. It is all the same size. It is that way on both computers and one has v 5 and the other v 7.. I just used it 2 days ago and it was fine..
Thanks

Now that is real strange Donna, never heard of that before especially on two computers at the same time :???:

What about in Word, WordPad, Photoshop Elements, or any other program like that
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

I think I figured out the problem. I e-mailed a picture from work to add text to. It must be the picture. I have sent pictures before and added it but for some reason it isn't chaning font size on this picture. I checked it on pictures I have taken and it is fine... Would it have something to do with the e-mailed picture?
Thanks

Have you saved the picture to your hard drive?
What format is the picture?

Are you sure you have the text tool selected?
The text would be on a separate layer so be sure you have the correct layer selected.

What if you select a different font and size before you create the text layer and start typing, does that work?

Donna,

About the only formats that will allow one to re-edit text are Layered .TIFF and unflattened .PSD. If you have flattened your image and done say a .JPEG, or .GIF, the text cannot be edited, per se. To be re-editable, the Text Layers must still be in Vector form, and not rasterized. That will come when you Export the file, after you have done the work.

That is why Chuck's question about file format is so very important.

If you have the original, still in the full Layered version, you might need to re-Export (Save_As) and choose one of the above two formats, then re-send the file to yourself.

Good luck,

Hunt

no..

I just downloaded the picture from the Memory stick from the camera it was taken with.. One of the mom's at the school took it for me.. Normally I use my camera so I know what I'm workinf with.. It is doing the exact same thing. I have saved it as a jpg and still can't change the font size. I have tried what you suggested. I have tried different fonts...nothing.. I have tried it on other jpgs and it is fine.. I don't know what it is about this picture. :pull: :pull: :pull: :pull:

Hunt, I am going to try your suggestions to do a save as in a different format.. Will get back to you on that.. Thanks for the help!!!! :)

Hi Donna,
If you added the text to the original and then saved it as a jpg with the same name (overwriting the original) you will never be able to fix it.
The best you can do is to maybe erase the old text and create new, but the text is now a part of the image.

When you take a jpg and add text to it in Photoshop Elements it turns the file into temporary PSD so you can work with layers.
The text appears on a separate layer and the original image is usually the background.
When you save it back to a JPG you can overwrite the original file, if you do then you are sunk and cannot make anymore changes.
That is why you need to save it as a different name and keep the original intact and without any changes. If you save the file as a PSD or TIF you can always go back and make changes to the text or anything else, the layers stay intact. JPG files do not support layers so they are flattened into a single layer when saved.

Chuck,

I downloaded the picture from the camera. I haven't done anything to it. I can't add text at all because it will not let me resize it. It is at 6 pts and it needs to be larger. I haven't flattened or anything. I saved the original as a psd, jpg, and a tif.. Still the same issue. It will not let me change the font size on this picture no matter what I have tried.. I really need to get this to be printed asap...

I understand what you are saying and I know not to change it to a jpg until I have finished and made all the changes I want... I do this alot and I have never had this problem. I can put text on any of the jpgs I have taken with no problem but I don't know what she did that would make this difference. It was taken on Sony camera and saved as a jpg file...

Thanks bunches
