User discussion concerning all that's Photoshop Elements (all versions).

I was working in PE11 on some photos that I was adjusting for color. On one particular photo I was using the Adjust Color For Skin Tone function. I had been doing this for a while, playing with the sliders, doing resets, etc. Suddenly the sliders became unresponsive; they wouldn't move when attempting to slide them with the mouse. I could exit the dialogue box. Other functions work fine, but when I return to ACFST it remained unresponsive. I exited the program and restarted. Same results. I also tried a different photo, with the same results. Finally I did a complete reboot on the computer and started PE up from scratch. No change. Short of reinstalling the program does anyone have any ideas for fixing this? Does PE11 have a reset on the preferences file like Premiere Elements? Edit: I see it does. I'll try that when I'm back on that computer.

Dave you might try deleting your temp files. I also clean out my media cache files. for win 8 it is:
C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files
and
C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache

I first tried resetting the preferences, then moved on to deleting the media cache files per your suggestion, Sidd. A total of about 10,000 of them! Unfortunately none of this has made any difference.

Does any part of that function work? If you hold down the ctrl key and click with the eyedropper in different areas does it resample as it should? Does the reset button work?

Yes, the eyedropper works, as does the reset button. It's just the sliders that are frozen.

John I had just a quick go at the skin tone function in PE11. The sliders only work for me if I first click with the eyedropper tool inside the face of my picture. Otherwise the sliders don't respond either.

Not John . The sliders don't work for me either way.

Bummer! Did you try resetting your preference file? Hold down the Shift Key and restart PE. You should get a message asking you if you want to reset.

Disregard my previous post, it works different in PE11:
Go to: Edit >> Preferences >> General
Click the button Reset Preferences on next Launch

Sorry, I overlooked that, Dave. I don't know if you still can do a repair install with that version. That would be something you could try. Also, when did you last update your video card driver? That can cause weird stuff in PE. Nvidia is churning out new drivers almost weekly.

Yeah, everything is up to date. I'm pretty faithful about that stuff, especially on my desktop machine. I'll probably just uninstall and reinstall. It's not the end of the world. Pretty weird though. Thanks to everyone.

Uninstalled and reinstalled. Back to normal. Computers are really strange people. Thanks for trying everyone.

Whatever it takes is right, Paz! My nature is to try to figure out the cause of these things, then to try to take the most noninvasive fix. But sometimes in the interest of time and frustration a shotgun approach just makes more sense.
