upgrading catalog to lightroom 5

Does anyone know if I use the upgrade elements catalog for lightroom option, if it just makes a copy of the elements catalog for lightroom or does it render it unuasable for elements. I am wanting to upgrade, but I am afraid if I upgrade the catalog and then am not happy with the way it works, that it will be lost to elements forever. I have just started learning Lightroom 5 and like the possibilities but want to be sure I don't mess myself up forever.

I went ahead and tried this. It copied the catalog to lightroom and it is still usable in PE. Dissapointed how it came through though. Lot of tags left out.

This is a "what I would do if I had the same problem recommendation" --

My suggestion is that you post on the Adobe site forums because it should give your question more exposure to others who have made the transition from the PSE catalog to a Lightroom catalog.

Include identification of what PSE version catalog you migrated as well as mentioning that it is Lightroom 5. Also, if you can describe which tags (or type of tags) were left out, that info may help people suggest solutions or alternatives.

There are Frequently Asked Questions at that forum site and some of them are version specific, so maybe you might find useful information about your problem. I also noticed that there is a special "Lightroom for Beginners" subforum.

If you don't find a solution using the existing forum descriptions, you can post a question in the Lightroom forum using your AdobeID as the login.
