Magnetic Lasso

Postby Walter Seaton » Sun Oct 23, 2011 8:28 pm

I am using Pse8. I have used the lassos frequently, particularly the magnetic lasso. When selected, it created a "pointer" which looked like a little magnet attached to a small triangle from which came an "extruded" line which attached to the object I was trying to separate out. Although I have done nothing to change any preferences or setting, quite suddenly I just see the magnet very briefly at the very start and again for a fraction of a second at the moment when the selection has been completed. In between, there is a circle with a target in the middle and the target must be made to follow the desired outline.

How can I get the magnet back full time?

It sounds like your Caps Lock is engaged. When the Caps Lock in on, the Magnet cursor turns into a circle with a "plus" in the center. Turn off the Caps Lock, and you should revert back to the magnet cursor.

Thanks, Bob.
I was having the same problem at times with the clone tool. Now I know why. :)

That Caps Lock has tripped me up several times too.

Thank you for your replies - unfortunately, it seems to make no difference whether my cap lock is on or off. Any other suggestion will be very welcome.

Further to the above - I have just realised that the magnetic lasso behaves just the same way as the ordinary lasso - even where there is a strong difference between one area (e.g. sky) and another area (e.g. dark building) the "marching ants" line follows the cursor instead of being pulled against the interrface. As I mentinoed before, the only time the magnet appears is when I place the cursor onto the starting point and again when I return to the starting point.
