Possible Download Issues

Postby Ron » Sun Feb 15, 2009 4:33 pm

Can I get a couple folks to try and download a subscriber file? There seems to be some problems with some of our subscribers getting corrupt zip files after downloading. Just download and open a couple of files for me please? Small ones are fine, like music or DVD Templates and report your findings here?

Thanks!
Regards,
-Ron

Ron,

Frequently, and usually on the first download, the download starts, but only part of the file is downloaded. The download seems unreasonably fast, maybe one or two seconds to download a 50 MB file!?. You know something is up. I just do it again and the second time it downloads in it's entirety.

Ron,

Sorry, I meant that that is how it has been in the past.

Now, I can't download because when the download window opens, there are no buttons to click. I'll try again.

Downloaded "Good Times" music - but attempt to unzip gave zipped folder is invalid.

Adjusting_preset_keyframes_sm_free tutorial which had been downloaded on Feb 13, was able to be extracted from zip file OK. Note: I had not done the extract from zip immeidately after the download - so this is downloaded on the 13th 10:39AM Pacific time and the zip extract Feb 15 1:59PM Pacific time was good and plays back OK.

Running IE7 (with Feb patch Tues fix applied) on Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1 current on Feb patch Tuesday. No other zip software installed.

EDIT *********** after 2:05PM Pacific time
Ron, deleted my Good Times and downloaded it again. This time it is now playing successfully after the extract - no errors!!

My guess is that because the timestamps were so close, I actually started my download before you made your change.

Now I can't get the download window (cart) to popup. I'm using IE7.

Check your taskbar, RJ. That has even fooled me in the past.

And thanks Barb. I actually changed some things around the afternoon of the 13'th. The issue is occuring because of those changes. I changed another setting, try again?

Ok Ron. I was fooled.

It's just as I previously stated. The first time I downloaded a file it completed too quickly and the file was corrupt. But then I downloaded the same file again and it finished downloading completely. It was the Basketball 10 Video Background tv0553_pal.zip. This is as it's always been.

I changed a setting in the interim, RJ. I think everything is working OK again.

I don't doubt that occasionally (especially the huge files) the connection gets interrupted and puts a hole in the downloaded file, but the issues recently were "none" of the subscriber files downloaded (except for me they worked perfect - still have to figure that one out).

I think we're back to normal.

Thanks again !!

Downloaded
- SD background
- DVD template
- music

Everything works as usual. Only one thing to mention: the download processing doesn't show resting time - but this can also be caused by my update on firefox.

Ron,

According to my broadband bandwidth testing, my download speed is between 8-9Mbps (8,000-9,000 Kbps), however, when I download a typical HD Motion BG from the site, I am informed that my download speed is only about 50Kbps. Is that to be expected?

Does it do that every time you download? I can't replicate that at all.

Download speeds depends on many factors, internet congestion/time, number of people downloading from the same server, even number of people in your neighborhood online. I've never downloaded http more than 1MB/sec (it may increase a bit more when FTP'ing), so don't believe the hype that you're supposed to be downloading at 10MB/sec all the time. The wording is usually "up to" :)

Thanks for all the help everyone!
