Another Blender short

Postby roadsideron » Mon Jul 19, 2010 11:49 pm

All I did in this video was place a simple 2D picture as a background image and inserted a plane, made it trasnparent except for the shadow and animated the ball.

I watched this early today and then came back to it. Something about it was haunting me and now I've figured it out. It puts me in mind of those floating blob balloons from the old TV series "The Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan. Amazing how easy this was to do. What would it take to add a little slow up and down bounce to it?

It would be as easy as grabbing it and moving it according to where you wanted to keyframe it. Keyframing is simply grabbing the ball and hitting the "i" key to keyframe it in that postion then moving it again and keyframing it again. I remade it in HD 1280x720. It looks a lot better.

I watched "The Prisoner" too. You can watch all 17 full episodes at http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner-1960s-series/.

In addition to keyframing, Blender has a physics engine. You can actually get the ball to deform elastically when it bounces, should you want that.

Oooh! I was actually thinking of that, but figured that would be asking too much.

BTW Bob...did you happen to catch last year's remake mini-series with Ian McKellen? It was the worst waste of time ever. The original series was much better.

Here's another short where I tweaked the sphere

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgOewbo2qVs

I used one shape key but I could have deformed it an infinite number of ways using different shape keys. Once your shape key is created you have absolute control over reshaping the object.

Patrick McGoohan was also great in the scarecrow movies. As a kid I loved those movies.

So that is how people make those UFO videos.

UFO's are real. I know because I have to wear my tinfoil hat everytime I go outside to keep them from stealing my mind. (Playing Outer Limits music in the background for effect)
