I took some test video of my niece hooping and wasn't sure if I would do anything with it. I shot a bunch that day of the grandkids, my daughter, & nieces & their kids. Took a lot of photos too. My niece 'instagramed' one of the photos on FB (after I have been painstakingly learning exposure for the last year ) After awhile it got me thinking to instagram up her video hooping x 10 and make an art piece. I do plan on shooting regular video of one of her performances. Had fun experimenting in After Effects. I did start off in PrPro scraped that and moved to AE and scraped the first version. This is the 2nd version with a bunch of tweaking. Yes, there are feet.

And an artist you are Cheryl! What a great job. How many hours did you spend on this project?

It really is a great-looking piece, Cheryl! Your niece is very good, and you did a wonderful job of showcasing her.
Loved the music too!

Thanks Dave & Steve! Dave, I worked on this about 5 days for a few hours here and there. The 3rd version didn't take too long to assemble since I had ideas from the previous days experimenting with blend modes & time remapping. It did take a day to tweak the timing and kept changing my mind on how many clips to ghost in and which ones. Swapped things around quite a bit. It got to the point that I could have tweaked it a month.
Steve, my niece has been hooping for about a year now and think it has helped with her sobriety. Channeling her off hours into a hobby. She is into organic and meditation. Sometimes I want to say hey this is not new, there were the 60's. But the younger crowd thinks they have reinvented the wheel. For the music I was looking for a regea feel.
By the way I did try the hoops out. They are much lighter than a regular hula hoop. I was a total fail. Back in the day I could hoop for hours do all kinds of tricks. Gave it up along with skate boarding.

Very well done! You keep finding new ways to present your media. I really like the way you did the ending.

Wow Cheryl, every time I see new work from you it makes me wonder if you are really the same person we met here years ago I also loved the ending and a great choice in music PS I don't think the Cards can beat the Braves two in a row ...

Thanks Bob & Chuck! Ideas are sometimes hard to come by. I thought v2 was good, but then scrapped it. And yes Chuck I probably hold the Muivipix pest title. I asked so many 101 questions back when you started this site. I had bought the book you co-wrote with Steve (and had just purchased PrEl) and the very next week I saw your post on the Adobe forum that you were starting this site. Gold mine! Cards are 2-0 top of the 7th.

Very nice...VERY NICE!! i'm curious if much of it could have been done in pre 11. As far as the portions where multiple clips are layered, did you keep the camera on a tripod so the background stayed fairly stationary? I've got so much to learn!! Thanks for sharing your stuff - it does inspire! Oh yeah and I noticed the feet And that was a great ending!

Mom, very cool video! I like the old film effect and the dream sequences, just beautiful. The music choice could not be any better and also goes well with her hair I have watched it already at least 4x and like it better every time I watch it. Your little star at the end is also very cute. You were really skate boarding , I never even tried that, but I was riding a big motor cycle for a while

Thanks Sherrin & Gerlinde. Sherrin, all the shots were hand held and no stabilization was done in post. Arms tucked in & feet firmly planted. I do have a tendency to move with the action and I had to keep reminding myself to let the dance move across the frame. There was a lot of dead trimming when she moved out of frame. The overlay of video had a blend mode of Lighten w/low opacity. There was an instance that no blend mode was used & just the low opacity. But, 95% was Lighten. I don't know if PrEl has blend modes. There are 3 film overlays sandwiched with the clips inbetween w/different blend modes. Gerlinde, a biker chic? Who knew! As for the last clip, well guess that is editor's grandma in me. Couldn't resist. Sorry Chuck on Atlanta's loss.

Love your effects in this and your niece is not only a very pretty girl, she is quite skilled at this and very graceful. I'm sure she's thrilled!
Your little one at the end is adorable!

Thanks Paz, Cirque du Soleil is a good description. The grand daughter had to try out the hoops and was quite comical. Thanks Greg! You were an early Muvipix member and probably remember my 3 page lens flare debacle. I couldn't get that effect if my life depended on it. Very trying times. Good thing everyone here was and is patient.
