Playback on project randomly speeds up

Postby skip » Sun Jul 09, 2023 4:12 pm

The playback on my pre 2023 project randomly speeds up to around 150% of the normal playback speed. Rendering does not help. If I close Pre 2023 and try to open it, it will not open. The only way I can get the program to open is to completely shut down the computer. Pre2023 will open OK then, and the playback is normal for a time until it happens again. I've tried uninstalling Pre 2023 and downloading it again. That helped for awhile, but the problem returned in a couple of hours. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:
Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware > Default Input > select No Input

If that doesn't work, please use the free MediaInfo and post a screenshot of the properties of your media in tree view:

Many users are having issues with VFR. If the file is variable frame rate, use Handbrake to convert to constant frame rate:

Here is a tutorial:

The only way I can get the program to open is to completely shut down the computer.

Instead of restarting, open Task Manager and find Premiere Elements and end the task.

It could also be related to the nature of the video file. What is the source of this video file? What is its resolution and frame rate?

We may need to dig deeper into its specs with MediaInfo for clues. As Peru says, it may be necessary to conver the file with Handbrake to a more conventional video file.

Peru/Steve - as always, thanks for bailing me out. I tried the default input/no input first. I did not have the random speed up at all yesterday, so (knock on wood) I think that solved my problem. Hopefully I won't need to contact you again on this. Thanks!
