2022 projects moving to 2023 all get media pending

Postby robertcallahan » Thu Dec 22, 2022 8:38 pm

I'm opening my 2022 projects in 2023 and all play audio and music but no video with just the media pending screen showing. I also get a media off-line error. I have fairly simple projects but I can't find how to fix the problem. When I play the video it doesn't stop. I tried selecting everything and clicked the enable and restarted and clicked to re-enable. I've cleared the cache also. Nothing is linked and all pictures and videos are on the local drive. I can create a new project

Hi Robert,

One thing that we always recommend here is to finish your projects in the version that created them. There have been very mixed results in trying to edit projects from a previous version in a new version of the software. One thing we recommend for sure is to backup your projects before opening them in a new version, just in case....
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Chuck is right. Premiere Elements has never been fully reverse compatible, so opening an project created in an older version of the program can cause corruptions to the project file and the program. So we do recommend finishing your projects in the version of the program you started them in.

That said, what you're describing is pretty rare. If you want to try to open a version 2022 project in version 2023, first make a copy of the original file, just in case things corrupt. Then watch for a Where Is message asking you to link the project to your media.

If that screen never showed up, then you may have a problem. If you can't open this project in version 2022, look for an auto-save of your project and open it with version 2022. Adobe pulled a lot of features in its latest version of the program, and older projects may simply be incompatible with the latest program.
