Blu-ray Player Poll

Postby Dave McElderry » Wed Jan 13, 2010 8:34 pm

I'm really curious to know how many of us here own Blu-ray players. Blu-ray burners attached to a computer don't count. I'm referring to a stand-alone player you would attach to a TV. This poll will remain open, and you can change your vote later if your "Blu" status changes. Thanks for participating!

Good idea Dave.

I voted "maybe someday". Right now it's too much buy-in for me and my target audience (family). But when they become really cheap and I am motivated to re-cable my system for some reason, I probably will.

I went for the maybe someday also. I have produced blu-ray discs for clients, wedding videos, but not for myself. I have an HV40 so it might be nice to someday get a HDTV and a blu ray player, but it's gonna be awhile before that happens.

Blu ray players are available for $110 - $120 so they are becoming more mainstream now.

I'm still watching tv on 4:3 off the air with a converter.
Not even cable or dish.
But, maybe one day I'll have 16:9 and blueray. Then I'll have to recapture my video in HD instead of SD. #-o

We just bought a HD tv from Panansonic and they had a promotion were you get to choose a bonus gift from either a camera, dvd/hd recorder or a Blu-ray home theatre system. Obviously we chose the Blu-ray!
Without this promotion I don't think we would have bothered spending the $$ on one for a while.

I went to Wally World (Walmart) last week and checking through the electronics section I noticed they had five different Blu-ray players for sale. Prices - $98 to $128 usd!

Can we safely say they are mainstream now?

So how many did you buy Ken? :) I paid about $125.00 for mine and Bobby paid about $110.00 for the same model, if my memory serves. Very mainstream. Must be about time for a new media type to appear.

Speaking of Bobby, I wonder where he is? Haven't seen him on here in a while.

When we replaced our 16:9 CRT with an LCD I got a player. I'm the only one in my family that has though! We've got a loveFilm subscription that sends us Blu Ray's to watch.

Is Blu-Ray mainstream? - Not at the price/disk they currently charge....

At your discretion TJ. It certainly serves the same purpose when used that way.
