cajn't open mp4 video in PE18

I have PE 18. Try to open new project. Have some footage from phone in UHD30 format. When I try import them to program, only audio is showing. I can play this footage in other players on this computer. Am I missing some setting? Appreciate some help. Please

Hard to say without knowing the specs of the video.

Open your video in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the text of the report it generates and paste it to this forum. With this detailed information we'll better be able to advise you how to proceed editing this MP4.

Steve is correct that is the best way.

Just guessing in the dark I would suggest it might be H.265 footage HEVC and PE 18 cannot edit that type of footage. You might need the free download "Handbrake" to convert to H.264 so you can edit.

Thank you, gentlemen. I will go with MediaInfo and will try from there. Some 2 months ago I was able to import UHD video from phone and have no problem. In the mind time windows download and install updates, maybe something gets removed.

Handbrake work, but free download version converting only 30% of file

Reason why I need UHD clips is because I wanted to try make project using footage from cell phone camera. This allows me to zoom or/and crop image to enhance dynamic of scene,
and improve look of clips. I make some testing, shotting with cell phone and get UHD image to PE 18 in my computer. This process was successful. But 3 months later, I went to Europe for 2-week trip,
and decide to get some footage to assemble movie. To my surprise, moving video to PE fail.
Creating video is my hobby and I do not do many projects. I just wanted to try cell phone camera, after very positive opinion how terrific toll is this. However, in my experience this is not right way.
Wide lens, no optical zoom, HD video recorded with only 17Mps and 4K with 35Mps, and looks like is recorded with less then 20 frames per sec.
I'm not going to do this project.
I'm still wondering what cause error in my case.

Ted the error I think is that the format HEVC is not compatible with PRE 18. If you upgrade to PRE 22 then you can edit HEVC.

To get better video quality from your phone you can try changing the settings in the app. If that does not work to your likening the following smartphone apps do a good job recording video. I currently use filmic pro:

Open Camera.
Cinema FV-5.
Apowersoft Screen Recorder.
Mobizen Screen Recorder.
Camera MX.
Adobe Premiere Rush: Video.

I have HEVC button of, and somehow unintentionally during a setting the phone for shooting I probably move this button to on position, and all footage from my trip is HEVC.
