Specific to Premiere Elements version 15
by aldap53 » Sun Feb 19, 2017 12:08 pm
I am using PRE 15 and having trouble with clips. Sometime the video will freeze and audio continues then video catches up. Other times, frequently, the video and audio both stop. I have cleaned and de-fragged my hard drive. No change in performance. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Al

As I said in my e-mail to you, Al, here are some of the things we'll need to know in order to help you troubleshoot your issue: * What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is the video? * What operating system do you have? * What processor does your computer have and with how much RAM? * What are your Premiere Elements project settings? You can find these settings by looking under the Edit menu and going to Project Settings/General.

Welcome to Muvipix. As is being hinted at by the two posts above, the primary "suspects" are either an underpowered computer (CPU, not enough RAM, maybe even HDD too full) or a strange codec for the video. The details requested will help begin the process of identifying the source of the problem.

More complete information about your video specs and project settings would be helpful, Al, as your computer certainly has enough power to edit this video. Also, do you have Quicktime 7 installed on your system? It may be necessary in order to edit this type of video. https://support.apple.com/kb/DL762?view ... cale=en_USWhen you first add a clip from this camcorder to your timeline, do you see a yellow-orange "render" line above the clip, along the top of the timeline? This render line would indicate that the program is not, for some reason, matching your project settings to your video specs -- which sometimes happens with MOV files.

video specs.png Steve, I put a new clip on timeline and it did not have the yellow-orange render line above it. In the previous timeline I did render the clip, and it still acted the same. No I do not have Quicktime 7 installed or any other version. See attached for details on clip and project.

I notice that your image in 'video specs.png' shows 23.976 frames per second.
In the image 'project specs.png' the frame rate shows as 29.97 fps.

Good catch, John!
Al, in the new project you created -- the one that you don't see a render line on -- do the project settings match your video specs, including the frame rate?
Also please let us know if you see a difference in performance after the Quicktime components are installed.

Yes the new clips video and project rate match. So I looked at that clips taken on 12/24/16 and they are all 23.97 rate, then I looked at clips on 12/25/16 and they are all 29.97 rate? Very bizarre, to the best of my recollection I did not make any camera setting changes? I will download Quicktime and let you if there is any change. Thanks

I installed Quicktime 7 but didn't see any change in the clips that are having the problem. Also I didn't change any preferences in Prem 15? Didn't know if I needed to make a change in preferences or the project file?
Thanks

I think you've stumped us, Al. With your hardware and your project settings matching your video specs, there is no reason your editing should not go smooth as silk.

Considering you have Adobe CS6 will the clips play without any problems in Premiere Pro? In the Premiere Elements preferences do you have Hardware Acceleration checked? Do you have Render Quality set to High or Draft? Do you have your preview scratch disk set to "Same as Project"? And finally, is your project file or any of the media associated with your project on an external disk or your NAS? Preferences.jpg Scratch Disks.jpg

Chuck,
My preferences are set just like the ones you posted. I don't have CS 6 or Pre Pro.
I am trying to create a video story with clips from Christmas eve and morning. The eve clips rate are 23.9 and morning rates are 29.9. Does this mean I will have to create two videos so I can change the rate in the project setting?
I tried to upload one of the clips but it was rejected 3 times?
Al

Hi Al,
No need to upload a clip. Sorry but I was looking at someone else's specs and thought it was you that had CS6 and Premiere Pro, not a problem.
Hopefully someone else can weigh in on the using different frame rates in the same project, not sure that is possible. Everything I do is 29.9 fps and have never tried combining other frame rates in the same project.
