I'll download it. I've been very happy with the codec pack as well as its accompanying utilities.

Steve, I have three questions when you have time:

1)What would downloading this software do for me that I cannot already do?

The following statement scares me: "It tries to avoid potential conflicts with other codecs installed on your computer. The installation is able to detect and remove over 100 different codec and filter packs."

2) Should I be concerned that the program may remove things I need? :pull:

3) What do the accompnaying utilities do?

The deluxe codec pack includes utility tools for fixing or replacing corrupted codecs. It fixed a strange stuttering problem I had playing back video in Premiere Elements 7. It also includes a tool for prioritizing codecs, I believe, although I've never used it.

Mostly it just gives you a nice package of codecs, many of which could improve or extend the way Premiere Elements works with certain video files.

Remember that you're constantly loading new codecs. Every time you download a media player or load a new game, you're likely getting another codec.

I can only speak from my own experience, since it's still a mystery to me what happens in the deeper recesses of an operating system. But I personally saw improvements with the previous K-Lite Pack, so I'm confident I'll be doing the right thing by loading the latest.

But like anything else, if it ain't broke, don't fix it :)
If you don't need the tools, which can be downloaded separately as well (gspot and sherlock), and your videos are playing fine, then don't do it. If you have problems playing mpeg files for some other type of video or audio then the codec pack is worth installing. If you don't have any problems I would say do not install the codec pack.

Well, Chuck, I am having a problem, but I am not at all certain that installing more codecs would solve it. The problem arises when I try to complete a long project with a series of shorter but completed MPEG2 projects, for example, when I try to assemble, say, ten 5-minute MPEG2 music videos on the PRE7 Timeline with the goal of buring a 50-minute DVD.

With PRE4, I would share my 4- to 5-minute music videos as HD MPEG2s on my HDD for the purpose of reimporting them later to assemble a series of them into a longer movie, and this worked well.

Nowadays, I stay away from sharing to the HD MPEG2 1920x1080 format on my HDD because, as I stated in another post, if I subsequently import them into PRE7 for the purpose of making a longer movie prior to burning a DVD, they invariably are full of red frames, which I assume are dropouts, so they are useless. For my slide shows, I am using Project Preset 1920x1080 then sharing to MPEG2 1920x1080 as well, and the resulting MPEG2s do play well, however, if I subsequently import them onto the Timeline, they are defective. The result is that, nowadays, if I wish to create a 50-minute movie, I do the entire project on the PRE7 Timeline, which I know is not ideal, but it seems I have no other choice.

Is it possible that downloading the KLite Codec Pack would solve this?

Do you think this would fix a problem with uploading photo images to sites. I am having uploading my images to various different sites, but the same images on a different computer upload correctly. My uploaded images only half to three quarters load correctly and the bottom half is either a grey/black or jumbled colour.

I am pretty sure it won't do anything for still images Helen, but maybe we can help.
Why don't you start a new topic in the Photoshop forum and let's see what we can do to fix your problem :)

Do you have the same problem when you upload images to the Gallery here at Muvipix?

Hi Chuck
I used another computer this morning and managed to upload them to the site where I was having major problems, so it looks like it is my computer. I have not tried loading to muvipix, I will give it a go.

I tried uploading to my album in the muvipix gallery and it said "The height and or width of the uploaded picture is more than that allowed by the gallery config." Is there a limit to the size of images? My image is 4,173kb and 2304 x 1728 size.
I now tried uploading a smaller image and it came up with same error message.

Hi Helen,

There is no sense in uploading images that large to the web, unless you're making them available for others to print, and in that case you should compress them (zip) anyway. But if it's just to view them 1024x768 is perfectly fine for most.

Hi Ron
Normally I don't post such large images, but I am working on a Photobook online and it will be printed and sent out to me.
Thanks
