V2F

Postby cdeemer » Thu Jan 01, 2009 7:14 pm

I decided to "upgrade" my various web projects by going from embedded to streaming video -- and found the most extraordinary software IMHO to make this happen. It's call "V2F" (video to flash), and it's quick, user friendly, perfect for my needs. If you want to stream video, check it out. http://www.easywebvideo.com/

Interesting "product" Charles, but a particularly nasty website. I don't like his sales approach, and I especially dislike webpages that don't let you navigate away from them. Smells a bit rotten to me...

Bob, I did get a pop up asking if I was sure I wanted to navigate away from the page, just press OK and it lets you go.
It really isn't too bad, I've seen much worse. If the product works as good as Charles says it does then the site is ok.

OK - I'll just go back to lurking. But I have a very high gain antenna for detecting, shall we say, the less than scrupulous amongst us.

I've never used V2F, but one of the "regular" posters to the Premiere Pro forums sings its praises. He's recommended it dozens of times to others. Based on these, I'd speculate that it's a very good program.

I agree the website sucks. However, I happened to know one of the people giving testimonials and did some other research ... and I tried other alternatives that I didn't like ... so the bottom line is, I love this software, though I think it's also a bit over-priced. But I upload so damn much video at the journal, this switch to streaming with this software makes my work both much, much easier, the files smaller, and more user-friendly for our audience on the other end (i.e. streaming vid), I LOVE IT. I have discovered nothing negative about this software. I own no stock but I'm a fan, despite the stupid website.

One thing I might check Charles is whether it UNinstalls correctly. That is another game the bad guys play - it seems to work fine, but if you try to uninstall it you get a lot of hassle. Again, another sign of a less than scrupulous company although this more frequently occurs with freeware. It goes hand-in-hand with websites that don't let you leave.

Of course I wouldn't want you to go through the effort of uninstalling it, but wonder whether you know of anybody who did it and if it uninstalled clean.

Been using it a whole lot, love it, and don't foresee uninstalling it ha ha ... maybe you believe the glass is half empty, I believe the glass is half full. Appreciate your concern but at the same time, not losing any sleep over it.

BTW, their customer service is excellent. Installed easy on XT, trouble with 2nd Vista computer, they sent me a new key promptly, answered a couple questions promptly, as good customer service as I'd want.

Maybe they're not crooks, just lousy marketers and web designers ha ha. Maybe my computer will self-destruct in 15 minutes. Well, I'll go with the former.

Interesting, not to say exciting!

Question: I'm interested in a software that will allow others to view my videos from my a web site but NOT download them.

Does V2F fil the bill?

Yes, it's streaming video.

For the way I use it, go to http://www.ibiblio.org/cdeemer/Karaoke.htm, which has both ways to show video on the web. The "click to play" is streaming video with V2F. Below it are wmv files, downloaded and played by the user.

There are a variety of ways to show streaming video built into the software, so it doesn't have to look like the way I use it. There are different sizes, a variety of players, etc.

I just finished looking at some of the material on your link, and the first words to come to mind are by Neil Young: "My, my, hey, hey" and here is the reason: It appears that you have helped me find, at long last and "out of the blue," precisely the software that I have been looking for.

I've been contemplating for some time the idea of exhibiting some of my video work on the internet, however, both my clients and I dislike, exceedingly, the idea that anyone who wishes may download to one's own computer our creations, to do with as one wishes.

Question: Am I correct in my understanding that V2F will work just as well with slideshows that have been outputted/shared as, say, MPEG2s, as with true video footage?

Additional questions: Will V2F work well even with slower conncections? How slow?

Comment: It never occurred to me that the topic "videoke" could be so interesting; as soon as I have more free time, I intend to watch the remainder of your work.

Additional Comment: The "camera movement" in that scene where you follow from one room to another the woman carrying her baby and looking for her lost but ringing telephone is on a par with the example Steve provides in his tutorial, in which the professional cameraman in a Scorcese film follows a couple along a winding path to the interior of a restaurant.

Thanks for sharing!

I don't know anything about slideshows.

Streaming video needs DSL or faster so the loading is ahead of the streaming. At least it seems that way to me.

You can convert any video format to .swf with the software, I believe. I've had no problem with .avi or .wmv or .mpg converting to .swf. However, large files -- say over 12 min or so, need to be broken into small units, hence my part 1, part 2 etc ... or you can do it all as .flv but I haven't messed with that. I don't know much, actually, which is a compliment to the software, which does it all, AND IT WORKS.

Regarding the scene you mention, I'll let Robert the actor know you thought he was a lady ha ha. Glad you dug it.
