Turn your computer into an internet TV.

Postby Gooder » Fri May 30, 2008 6:11 am

I stumbled across this interesting site: Miro 1.2 - Turn your computer into an internet TV.
Download Miro to watch free internet video channels and play any video file.
http://www.getmiro.com/

Text taken from the website

What is Miro?
Miro is a free application that turns your computer into an internet TV video player. You can download it here for Windows, Mac, or Linux. This release is still a beta version, which means that there are some bugs, but we're moving quickly to fix them and will be releasing bug fixes on a regular basis.

---------------------------

Has anyone heard of this or used the free video software?
It also records videos from sites such as, YouTube, Google Video, Dailymotion and more.

Please note: I have not tried this software and thought it could be of some use as many forum members often ask how to record videos from websites!

It really looks like a player and an iTunes type of portal more than anything else, Lee. Which could be fun. I've discovered many great sources for Internet TV channels all over the world (such as http://wwitv.com/portal.htm and my current favorite source for TV shows, movies and clips, http://www.hulu.com). Lots of fun, random stuff, but sometimes pretty poor quality output.

Once it gets up and running, I may check it out. God knows I don't waste nearly enough time staring at computer monitors!

Yeah, very true. :)
Could be handy for just recording videos from sites such as, YouTube etc.

Even though I do not agree with everything that can be found on YouTube, there have been some reports of various
nasty and sick videos posted on that site! But that's another debate entirely

Interesting TV links, Steve!

Cheers,
Lee

Hulu was actually created by, I believe, NBC and Fox, so yes everything on it is legal and authorized. (And you can bet, after the recent writers' strike, everyone is getting well compensated too.) The programs are paid for by the very brief ads that run between acts.

And, hey, where else are you going to see old episodes of Kojak and Adam 12!

I am one of those members, I'm keeping an eye on this topic.

I have been using SnagIt and Camtasia. I'd like to find something that is easier to use, such as just click and save to hard drive rather than capture, edit, save as avi... etc.

Hi, Lee. Just an update.

I loaded Miro onto my computer, but was very unhappy with it. The "network" of videos is many a lot of BitTorrent (bootleg video) sites, and many of them full of broken links.

The program may work well as a streaming video recorder. But, as a portal for watching video and TV on your computer, I didn't like it and removed it.

But that may be just me. Any time something sends me to a site where pop-ups start showing up by the dozens, I get rid of it boomps quick!

Hi Steve, thanks for the important update! :)

I didn't know it would take you to those kind of sites :(
Yes, just simply un-install the software.

The software was featured on a TV channel back in the UK (The Gadget Show), I think it was channel 5
for those of us who watch UK tv. Anyway, they said nothing about Bootleg sites. It was more to watch videos from such sites
as Google and Youtube, also saving the video to your PC!

Thanks again, Steve!
Very much appreciated!
