Today I've learned that the FREE CamStudio is NOT made by TechSmith.
That makes me feel a lot better about Snagit and Camtasia.

Re: Free screen capture?I found this application to create your own mouse cursors called RealWorld Cursor Editor. http://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-maker . You can create 32-bit cursors where you can have variable opacity like in CamStudio. You can also create animated cursors that will really show users where the cursor is located. You can donate if you like it.

Re: Free screen capture?
That's correct. Like many other free software applications, the person behind CamStudio is now attempting to finance the development of the application by using an installer that offers to install junkware. Unfortunately, there are reports that it may be installing malware. It's not clear whether it's the installer that may be infected or the junkware. The original installer didn't have that problem. If you are going to be installing CamStudio, be sure you are using a good antivirus application and read the installation prompts carefully to avoid inadvertently installing something you don't want.
