How do I create a Preset?

Postby yosale » Wed Jul 15, 2015 2:39 pm

I have made several adjustments to a clip such as Color, Gamma, Lighting, etc. Is it possible to create a custom preset that can be reused in other projects?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

You can save presets for each effect but not sure you can save presets for all applied effects into a single preset. Steve might know if that is possible. See the screen shot below with the Save Preset option, if you have any questions just ask :)

Thanks.

But as you guess, I'm looking for a compound preset that encapsulates all the adjustments. I think the pro version has that feature.

Yes, premiere pro does have that capability. Steve will know for sure if it is possible in Elements or not :)

In Premiere Elements, you can only save a preset for one effect at a time.

Shame.
I figured a way to get around it by saving a project (called Template) with a clip(s) that have several adjustments / effects each.
When I create a new project, I copy the template and rename it to the new project name. I then import media for the new project. It now contains the clip(s) with the adjustments (from Template) and the new media. To give the new media the same properties as the saved clip, I use Copy on the saved clip and "Paste Effects and Adjustments" on the new media. The new media inherits all the effects and adjustments from Template. At the end I delete the original saved clip. It works, but I wish there was an easier way.

I think the template idea using "Copy / Paste Attributes" is probably the best idea and the only way to accomplish what you want with Elements.

In version 13, this feature is known as Paste Effects and Adjustments, by the way.

Hey guys, are you sure you can't create a preset with multiple effects in Premiere Elements 13? The user guide says you can.

I don't have Premiere Elements 13 to test this (I'm using Premiere Pro), but back when I still had Premiere Elements 7 I could certainly do this. The key to doing this is to make sure each effect to be contained in the preset has been selected before you right click and select Save Preset. By default, only one effect is selected. You need to ctrl-click on each effect in the applied effects panel you want to be included in the preset (each will become highlighted in turn to indicate selection) then right click to save the preset. The saved preset can be applied in any project.

Can someone with Premiere Elements 13 try this and report back?

Although I can select more than one Applied Effect by holding down the Ctrl/Cmd key, when I make a custom preset, it only saves a preset of the one effect that's "open" in the Applied Effects panel.

So it appears that in versions 11-13, you can only save a preset of one effect setting in Premiere Elements.

Thanks for trying that out, Steve! Looks like they changed the way the program works and didn't update the manual.

I went to the current Premiere Elements help page. On the right side, under Help and tutorials, I selected the Premiere Elements 13 manual (PDF) link. The creating an effect preset instructions are on page 120. Here's a screen capture of a portion of that page. I highlighted the relevant text in yellow:

This is how you do it in Premiere Pro CS6 as well.
