Re: Thought that this might be of interest...It seems like editing for these small action cams is more complicated than just using a "regular" camcorder.

Re: Thought that this might be of interest...
GoPro cameras record video using h.264 in MP4. That's pretty standard these days. Seems to me this is more to do with editing h.264/mp4 in those editors. Looks like I made the right choice for me by going with Premiere Pro.
Re: Thought that this might be of interest...Hmmm, maybe I missed something or was lucky, but when I recently made a video on my Mac laptop using GoPro HDHero2 footage (1920x1080 30p) using FCPX I had no problems at all. I knew nothing about transcoding or special workflow, I just imported the footage and made the movie.
Maybe its only footage from the newer cameras that can cause a problem? Desktop: HPE-580T, i7-950 (3.07GHz), 16GB RAM, Win'7 64-bit Home Premium, PSE12/PRE12, Lightroom 5.
Laptop: MacBook Pro (retina), 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5. Cameras (in use): Panasonic GH4/Canon HFR400/Canon HV30, GoPro HD Hero2.
Re: Thought that this might be of interest...
it could have something to do with the computer specifications, too.
