The 4 wheeler & the snow tire

Postby sidd finch » Sat Jan 04, 2014 9:41 am

Finally got a chance to do some cold weather camera testing. Christmas Eve we grabbed an old snow tire and tied it to the 4 wheeler. I even tried a very small trip-hop section ala-mom. In the end I think the dogs got the biggest workout.

Good point Paz, I corrected my post.

I was surprised at how well it captured the footage. We made 2 runs on the 4 wheeler. First run was with a person driving and a second person holding the camera attached to a monopod. This helped absorb some of the shake as opposed to mounting the camera on the 4 wheeler. The second run is with it on the headband. I was going to stabilize the footage but I think some of the shake adds to the realism.

Very cool Sidd! What frame rate did you shoot? Noticed a nice slomo section. Was that on a frozen pond? Welcome to the world of trip hop. :-5

Thanks Mom,

I was shooting in 1080P at 30fps and just did slow down to 50%. I recorded in the wide mode which is 170 degrees. Did Santa let you join the GoPro club yet? :)

I'm too old to put up with that kind of beating anymore, but it's fun to live it vicariously. The dog was definitely having too much fun! Enjoyed it - made me feel like I was on the ride! :TU:

As the crash happened I kept thinking...don't break the camera, don't break the camera....

For you Dave I am uploading a sunrise that is a little more sedate... :)

Wow, Sidd that looks like a lot of fun! I loved the music.

Funny thing is I chose the same song from Ramstein, the karaoke version, for a video of my son and his rock crawler.

Gerlinde that is too funny. The music I like but the lyrics are a bit darker and I do not speak German. Translation for the song is Du Hast = Do you hate me.....hummm... karaoke makes sense to me. :) The Karaoke is from Serbia Rammstein.

That is awesome Mom. I was thinking about you while I was recording over the holiday and wondering if Santa was good to you. When we got back home I did not see anything posted so I was wondering. Did you get a 3 or a 3+?

Got the 3+. Hate to admit this, I had to watch an unboxing video to get the dang thing from the packaging. So far got the battery charged and firmware updated. Haven't had time to shoot yet. We are getting a winter storm and I don't want to risk taking it out plus the wind chills are predicted for -25 to -30. I may shoot some timelapse of the 2 dogs soon. We lock them in the sunroom when we are out and when I get home the place is tossed about! Just dog toys, their beds, and the runner rug is getting shredded. I'd like to see that in action. Hard to believe a 17 lb & 19 lb pups can do so much in a short time.

That's a play on words between "hassen" hate and "haben" have, Sidd. Du hast (you have) versus du haßt (you hate) -- sounds nearly alike.
