Premiere won't recognize .mov files

Postby andersonfilm » Mon Mar 04, 2013 4:17 pm

I have interviews that were captureed as .mov files using Final Cut Express, but Premiere Elements won't recognize the files to allow importing them. The files will play in Quicktime. I have updated to Mountain Lion, and .mov files that were imported with Snow Leopard will import into Premiere Elements using Mountain Lion. I used Final Cut to capture because Premiere Elements would not allow me to split clips by timecode. The option is visible, but the button would not activate. Is there a way to import these .mov files?

The problem is most likely that you captured them in Final Cut -- which captures pretty much everything as an MOV. Other programs are not as adept as Mac programs at figuring out which of the hundreds of codecs this MOV is using.

The best solution is to recapture the video using Premiere Elements.

But if that's not available, you might have to help the program ID it. You say you captured the video? So is this from a tape-based camcorder? a MiniDV or an HDV?

Another possible solution is to ensure you have the most current version of quicktime installed.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
