.Avi not working in Vegas.

Postby Phillyrider807 » Fri Mar 12, 2010 8:20 pm

I used gspot and this is what came up.

File Length Correct
OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
Interleave: 1 vid frame (33 ms), preload=504
Audio frames: Split across interleaves
Video: 3.90 MB (83.69%)
Audio: 724 KB (15.18%)
AVI Overhead: 54.0 KB (1.13%)

Any help?

Lol sry should of put more detail

When i load the video in vegas 9.0 the audio will play but the video won't.

And it's a videogame cutscene. I started to make a AMV. If it was just one it wouldn't be problem because i would just redownload it. However i downloaded a batch all in one file and they all was recorded the same way and none of them work. Audio does. Video doesn't

I can play the videos in WMM,WMP,VLC.

I'm with Bob. I would not expect you will be able to edit that AVI natively in Vegas or most other video editors. It may be an AVI, but it likely uses a non-standard codec (compression system).

Knowing the codec, we'll be able to advise you more specifically. But my recent Steve's Tip's article offers advice on converting that video to a more standardized DV-AVI format.

Codec is Divx according to Gspot.

Under video it says

Codec-Divx
Name-XvId 1.1.2 Final
Status-Codecs are installed

This is what it says under container
File Length Correct
OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
Interleave: 1 vid frame (33 ms), preload=504
Audio frames: Split across interleaves
Video: 3.90 MB (83.69%)
Audio: 724 KB (15.18%)
AVI Overhead: 54.0 KB (1.13%)

And this is what it says under User Data/Meta Data
[ISFT] VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1 (build 2066/release)
[JUNK] VirtualDubMod build 2066/release
[USER] XviD0046

I downloaded a torrent. I would hate if none of these vids(over 100) doesn't work. lol.

Check out my Steve's Tips article on converting, referenced above (even though it is written for Premiere Elements, similar rules apply). Almost no editor supports Divx natively.

Convert the Divx to a DV-AVI (Prism will do it) and you should be just fine.

Steve's correct.

Divx is a distribution codec with high compression not very suited for editing. On top of that, it appears you have the Xvid codec installed and processing divx instead of the actual divx codec -- which can increase compatibility problems. Convert the video to dv-avi and you should be fine.
