The problem I'm having only occurs with DV-AVI (so far) in one of the display modes I mentioned. After installing MEP 16 again, the problem is still there, but I can get rid of the green lines if I use the option to display the timecode in the preview monitor.

I received the upgrade offer too, but they also offer an upgrade to Video Pro X2 ( their professional version ) at 50% of the list price. That would be $199.- instead of $399.-. I'm wondering if I would be really able to take advantage of the offer or would I need a previous version of Pro X2? It says the offer is only available through the link in the email.

There is also an upgrade offer for owners of previous versions of Video Pro X here http://www.videopro-x.com/us.

The non-Plus version has an activation fee for the MPEG-4 codec. Does anyone know what the fee is?

Earlier versions were able to produce AVCHD disks - high definition videos on standard DVDs, although it may not have been straightforward. Does MEP16 and/or MEP16 Plus have a straight-forward method, i.e. from a disk burning menu, to burn AVCHD to standard DVD media?

I don't need lots of bells and whistles. If the non-Plus version will author AVCHD DVDs with a modest codec fee it may be all I need. Thanks.

Yes, MEP16 Plus writes fully menu-ed AVCHD to standard DVDs. It is one of the burn options in MEP16 Plus.

Thanks again!

I guess you wouldn't know if the non-Plus has the same functionality. I tried the v15 Plus trial and the AVCHD option didn't even show up!

For the non-Plus version it says the ability to burn AVCHD discs can be bought directly from the program. A comparsion here:

OK, thanks again.

That takes me right back to my original question. The Magix website gives no clue how much it is. There is a 30 usd difference between the versions which makes knowing the codec purchase price relevant. You know, trades offs. :)

'suppose I could do the trial thing again. :-&

The last time I did a Magix trial it left a bunch of files on my PC when I uninstalled it, which bugs me. I'll think I'll just roll the dice and order :-8

If it doesn't work out I'll just sell it on muvipix for a great deal

Also note that the non-Plus version does not support AVCHD at all.

The comparison chart seems to indicate that the only difference is the requirement to purchase the AVCHD supporting codec. Since I use HV20 .m2t files the requirement for me would be burning AVCHD to a standard DVD.

Wait a minute. Doesn't the HV20 produce high-def mpeg-2 files, not Mpeg-4 AVCHD?

I took the plunge and paid for the download version of MEP16Plus. I entered the serial number and proceeded to my last project where there were horizontal green dashes throughout the preview monitor when playing back DV-AVI. Guess what? The green lines are now gone. Hah!

The problem I had with Mercalli Stabilizer in the German version (Video Deluxe) hasn't occurred yet in the US version of MEP 16 Plus.

Yes! All I need is a reliable way to author AVCHD high definition on conventional DVDs (and standard definition DVDs, too).

I have some sample HDV .m2t files 1440x1080i that I downloaded from DVINFO.NET a while ago. I can add those to the timeline without any problems in MEP 16 Plus. I can then create a blu-ray movie on a DVD (DVD-5) or Blu-Ray disc using smart-rendering. This is in MEP16 Plus. Unfortunately I don't have any players to test it out on.

The HDV samples came from Brett Sherman's post at:
http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/sony-hvr-v1 ... otage.html

Maybe I can find some HV20 footage to download.

Yes the Plus version will do it.... but Ken has been playing with the non-Plus version and so can not burn AVCHD discs from his HV20 clips. To burn AVCHD discs he would need to buy the plug-in from within the program... or of course buy the Plus version.

So far the program has seemed pretty reliable. No major issues.
