Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 Released

Postby RJ Johnston » Sun Jan 31, 2010 7:11 pm

Corel released a new version of VideoStudio Pro last week. Http://www.corel.com

You can read comments about it in the Corel forum: http://forum.corel.com

The first thing I tried was capturing analog from a VCR with a capture card. When I clicked the capture button, all I got was a "Cannot start the capture graph." This worked fine in the previous version. The included DVD Factory 2010 is going to take some getting used to.

The upgrade price is $69.99. I got $20 off that using BONUSBUCKS20 during checkout for having purchased some other product in the past, so my final cost was $49.99.

Is that an immediate recommend against, Robert?

Yes, don't recommend. It's terrible, actually. Complete butcher job.

What is going on here, both with Corel and Adobe? These are not bleeding-edge experimental softwares, but in general (should be) incremental improvements on existing established bases. And there are any number of people out there who would be willing to test for free. There is just no need for this kind of work.

I am getting very dispirited about where the future is going.

Or I should consider going back to work. One of my skills was in establishing real, effective test plans and procedures. It seems that nowadays the door to the test area is the same door as the exit to the shipping dock.

I very much agree, Bobby.

I realize that these are $100 programs -- but I'd certainly make do with less heavy-duty features (like the Organizer) if my Premiere Elements would just capture, edit and output without crashing.

Premiere Elements 2 was one heck of a product!

And Premiere Elements 8 is already dead. Now we are looking for other programs, and Coler is not the answer.
Maybe Mac, and Final Cut Express?
