Sony Vegas avi issue

Postby cdeemer » Wed Oct 15, 2008 12:42 pm

Curious thing I noticed re Vegas Studio: if I import avi files from a DVD of stock footage I have, no problem. However, if I import avi files from my hard drive that I shot with my camera, I get only audio in Studio -- but if I convert those avi files to mpeg, and import those, I get both video and audio. Also, if I run the avi camera file thru Virtual Dub and resave as avi, and then import, I get both video and audio.

What do I have to do to eliminate this extra step import avi files shot with my camera? Thanks.

p.s. Actually if I did the rough edit in Virtual Dub, then imported those files, I guess I wouldn't be losing a step, just doing the first step in a different program. But is there a plugin for Studio to do it all there?

Are they AVIs from a DV-camcorder?

Yes.

This appears to be a common issue with Vegas, lots of stuff on the web forums etc, and the most efficient workaround appears to be to prepare the clips first in VirtualDub, the avi's of which Vegas will read.
