Confused with audio in Pro CS3

Postby Sara J. » Thu Feb 14, 2008 12:22 pm

Ok, now I got my new computer and trying out the Pro for my first project. I might be an idiot, but pro won't play my sound with my video. I imported it in CS3. The sound will work in PE when I tried the video there. CS3 shows that there is sound with the file. In the audio timeline I have toggled with the sound on/off and I don't get any sound change. (yes, all the sound is turned up in timeline and on my computer) Also in the source preview it will not play any sound.

Am I missing something?

When you play the clip with Windows Media Player, do you hear anything?

Hi Sara J,

Might be worth a try to look in the Preferences and see what settings you can change.
They should be setup for your sound card!

Edit/Preferences/Audio and Audio Hardware!

Try there first and post back!

Hope it helps!

When I go to Edit/Preferences/Audio and Audio Hardware the only choice that I have is Pre Pro Windows Sound. In the Edit/Preferences/Audio I tried switiching from use file setting to stereo and still nothing. I can see in the Audio Master Meter that it is active with sound. I just can't hear anysound in pro. I tried starting a new project from start-up and still no sound.

And what about your Asio settings... are these pointing to Realtek drivers?

ASIO Settings

I am going to say yes, but then I don't quite understand this part.

I Get a box for DirectSound Full duplex Setup
I get two choices in Device Name both Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEX. One with sync Reference and one without. The Sync Reference is checked.

I will also add to this post with the checking of updates for your Pro CS3!

I know when I installed my version that there were updates available.
Could be worth a try getting these and seeing if that fixes the problem!

Also, you said you had "imported it", just wondering if this file needs converting or something!

Sara J, forgive me for asking but did you try the normal way of importing from your Camcorder?

Just wanted to be sure we are on the same level :)

Thanks,

I checked the updates and I don't see any update for CS3 that would effect audio.
Now I also went to after effects and placed an audio file in the bin and tried to play that file (mp3 audio) using the time controls play. Now keep in mind that I have just got this program and I have never used it before. All I did was double click in the bin. Add audio file. Double click on that file and try to play using time controls.

NO SOUND.

I did import the "normal way" I used the capture mode and plugged my camera in. I think (trying to remember) when I imported the file yesterday I did get sound. When I opened the project today to start playing around I get no sound. The file that I imported with Pro did play with sound in windows media player and did play with sound when I used it in PE.

Hi Sara J,

My version is 3.1.1
Could you go to the help menu and then select update :)

If there are any updates then Pro CS3 will inform you, you never know it could be a simple matter of an update!

Hope it helps!

If your system is a Dell, there are Sigma Tel Hi Def Audio driver updates, they might help.

Glad it worked Sara, I just had to do the same thing with a couple of computers over the past month or so.
How has the winter been in North Dakota this year? We used to get to Fargo a couple times a year back in the 80's.
They had the closest mall to us, we lived near Alexandria, Minnesota. I also worked for KBRF in Fergus Falls, Mn., not too far from North Dakota.
